Chewing gum?

No kidding. That sweet old Dr. Rosenthal on FOX Sunday morning always gives us a medical advice for the week. This one had to do with chewing gum and concentrating. Some 'report' says that children doing homework do much better if chewing gum. He agreed that it can be a most annoying habit. OTOH... I wondered if when we are doing some high-focus piecing/stitching if we'd better get out the Spearmint. Let's try it. If we fail, spearmint gum is very effective placed in the pantry to ward off assorted vermin such as weevils. It works here in the high humidity of the Swamp. Never ever see a bug. Polly

Has it been chewed Polly, or just left open on the shelves? I have heard that min deters some sort of bug or cats, not sure which though.

When stress is really high and I need to concentrate on a specific task, I chew gum. Realized long ago that it helps me focus. (dunno why

-- probably I'm still a child at heart lol) Typically I stay away from chewing because it aggravates nerves in my face. But yes, when I quilt, I chew. And you're right that it's a disgusting and annoying habit.

I really wish I could tolerate chewing gum if it really improves concentration. The last several projects I've worked on I have cut things wrong. Or just measured things wrong. Not so big a deal since I always over-buy on fabric. However, the last 2 days have been unbelievable. I'm working on a BOM from my LQS. They, however, have a tendency to be fairly precise on their strips/pieces for the blocks. So...yesterday, was cutting along and realized I was short one piece. No problem - the LQS is around the corner and they are very gracious about giving you pieces when you make mistakes. Go there this AM - they are out of that fabric and it's the background for a 20 something in. lonestar block. OK - buy 1/2 yd of different fabric. Come home, count, measure and cut - WRONG AGAIN! - for one size of the squares. Now I have to go back and admit AGAIN to being an idiot and buy more fabric! I don't get what's going on with my brain but this is getting really tiresome. I think I'll ask them if they will cut the squares for me so all I have to do is trim and cut in half.

I let my daughter chew gum because it helps her concentrate. I do see a marked improvement, but I can't give it to her all the time, as it can cause jaw joint problems later on.
