Diamonds ..... not this girl's best friend

Screeeeech! I'm still battling diamonds. I've tried all kinds of measures, but the only thing that works (most of the time) is eyeballing the place to match up the corners for stitching. I've read several online explanations, but nothing works.

So here's the question -- I'm sewing with a 1/4" seam. Shouldn't I cut off 1/4" on the pointy parts and then they'll match up right? I've measured my seam width, measured the pointy parts, measured the thread, for goodness sake. Somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong. I usually squirm under criticism. This time, bring it on.

Ok.....when I took a class from Karen Combs, she had a trick for that 1/4" offset. I don't know if I an explain it clearly. Stick a piece of 1/4" masking tape on your machine bed or table. Lay this down horizontally, not vertically. OH WAIT! I found a Karen Combs demo that shows what I'm talking about.

The pertinent part is right about 5 minutes into the clip. I hope it helps..

Ohhhhhhhh me, Sunny, how I love you. LOL. I've been challenged before but never to the point that I thought measuring the thread might be a help. How wonderful. Thank you. Polly
