Everything I have sewn today is wrong

Do you ever have one of those days where nothing you sews goes right? I am working on a fairly simple redwork miniature quilt. I had one of the corner blocks sewn upside down, one border was longer than the other one, and it goes on and on. I have it all fixed now after much ripping out and resewing, and now I'm almost out of thread! I am going to put this to one side, and work on it again tomorrow. I really don't want to look at it right now.

Correct answer. When it becomes clear that the day is jinxed, the correct response is "step away from the machine." :)

Ack! I've had days like that, and it's really frustrating. Just today I was putting together strips of binding fabrics to finish off a stippling sampler (a sample for a class I'm to teach here), and I sewed the right sides together for most of the strips -- and the wrong sides for the others! :S

Oh yes... Sometimes I can't bear to look at it for days afterward!

Agreed. Some days you get the bear, and some days the bear gets you...

I used to know a fellow who had a small custom t-shirt silk-screening business. His most popular design was a drawing of a dragon sitting with legs crossed under a shady tree picking his teeth with a lance, and odd pieces of armor strewn about... The caption was, "Sometimes the dragon wins..."

Oh Sandy, that made me smile (in a kindly way). You can't believe how many times I stretch out a piece of potential binding, just to make sure I am putting it together the right way. I never dare sew the next join until I have pinned and stretched out and double checked. It takes me forever, but I am very aware of the likelihood of my getting it wrong >g< . Sherry,

There are some days that I can sew even the simplest block together wrong by putting a piece upside down--yep I really love it when the back side of a fabric is on the front of a block--or getting the wrong side of a triangle attached.

That's when I decide it's time for a break, just like you did. :-)

I know tomorrow will be a better day for you. Michelle in NV
