Disaster quilts done!

A local businessman borrowed a church bus and is leaving today for the Disaster Area. I sewed all night until 6 a.m. today to finish in time- these quilts are HEAVY and it would have been very expensive to ship them. I finished 24 quilts- until I ran out of batting- and then made

5 flannel baby blankets. I miscounted! My goal was 30 and I'm one short. Oh well, no one should try something as difficult as counting at a time like that, right? LOL

Here's a link to the results of my sewing marathon.

Another detail.... I used two new 400 yard spools of white thread on top. Ran short of white thread and started using my bobbins on top with thread from other white spools. Also, used black thread on three quilts and one with navy thread. I'm estimating I used over 1200 yards of thread in three days. My sewing machine is TIRED!

No wonder your furbabies wanted you to get up and walk around every once in a while, even before their treats; they were afraid they were going to lose you in that pile of quilts! Absolutely outstanding work.

Our little sewing circle of 6, including myself and Musicmaker, are going to do an 8-week marathon. DH has a business trip to Houston the first week of November, and will take them all down there for us in his pick-up. Yippee!!!

Karen, Queen of Squishies glad to participate, and happy for Leslie's bus

Leslie, That is quite an achievement. I can't sew a thing. All my machines are stowed away and who knows where in the garage my stash is. You should rest well now, you deserve it. Linda

Fantastic. I took a picture of the bin before I squished it down and duct taped it but mislaid my disc. Soon as I find it again will post a picture and let you know so you can see.

Absolutely amazing Leslie! Since I don't have any money to but supplies or to donate, I've cleaned out the closets and have a couple of bags of clothing to donate. Now to just find someplace local that is collecting.

Well done!! Now go make like a Furbaby - curl up somewhere comfy and rest.

I'd say you *did* make your goal, Leslie, since your sewing room counts as a disaster, too. ;) But congratulations on such a tremendous job -- you're amazing!

Great minds, Debi! I've also cleaned out my closet. I'd been keeping a lot of my nice "teaching" clothes since I retired, but I figure I'll never use them if I haven't used them in six years. If some of the refugees can't use them for new jobs or interviews or whatever, Salvation Army or someone should be able to sell them in their store to raise money to help. One way or another, it should be helpful.

Leslie, I can sympathize!! I used up the last of my guttermann mega-spools, so I just started grabbing what was already loaded and ready to go. It pretty much ended up being other light colors - ivory, plae yellow, then whatever was left...turquoise, red, pink, lime green (calm down Jeanne!). I haven't done anymore sewing today...tried to get some more work finished on the house...almost got the hallwya painted, but had to run errands for the family (grocery, hardware store, etc.).

Am hoping to finish by the end of this week, but i now have 2 very sick children, and I think that is going to put an all stop on both house work and quilts....6 more to go, um....27 almost totally completed...have to run and stitch 2 more out of that 27....you said you were 1 short of your goal, and I am WAY over my goal, so I figure we balance out.

Larisa, still shak> Another detail.... I used two new 400 yard spools of white thread on

Leslie - you never cease to amaze me. Consider this an "atta girl" and a "job well done" and by golly if you were closer I'd take ya out for a Margarita.... or three!!
