OT--dirty cat toes

The flower shop two doors away just resurfaced their parking lot this weekend.

It appears that QI Katie Mae wandered through the parking lot sometime yesterday. Every time she takes a step she shakes her little paws. Her feet also smell like tar or creosote. David and I took soap and water to her feet last night (a move she did not at all appreciate! LOL) and lots of black stuff came off.

However, this morning although she's forgiven us for the soap and water treatment, her feet still smell like creosote and she is still trying to shake something off.

Any ideas what we might try as the next treatment? I thought maybe GOOP, but don't know if that will work.

Maureen, and a furbaby with sticky toes.

If the vaseline doesn't work (and don't worry if the cat licks the vaseline, it'll shoot right through her), try alcohol. But rinse that very well after. It's certainly not good for her. Or, better, call the vet and ask what they advise.

Oh my, we had a kitty named "BooBoo" who did the same thing. She eventually cleaned it off herself. "BooBoo" was a kitty that had bee the pet of a young family, thus the name, and we got her as a "retread". She came to us after the older children vaselined, powdered and tried to diaper her.

If it's the hair between the toes, I'd just clip it. You really don't want to do the catch-and-watch thing again!

DH says that he used to use turpentine to remove the tarry stuff. You most certainly DO NOT want to put that on the kitty's toes!!! I agree with whomever said to ask your Vet. I'd be willing to bet the Vet tells you to just leave it alone and let it will wear. The other idea to trim the hair between kitty's toes is also a good one. I have done that many a time to my babies. They DO NOT like it so be prepared -- LOLOL! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Try Dawn dishwashing soap, also. We have used it on dogs/cats that got into skunk spray, and all sorts of nasty stuff. Take your time, and rub in well. Praise the kitty for being a good sport -even if she isn't ;)) Have a warm toel that you tossed in the dryer just for her, and wrap her in that. Many times a cat will find that very relaxing.

And tell her to "tip-toe thru the tulips" next time, not tar!!
