Dye Running

I bought seven gorgeous yards of good-quality midnight blue batik and washed it exactly according to the Retayne directions. Do I need to do anything else to it--test a corner, rinse again, whatever--- or do y'all think it's safe to use without everything else in the quilt (and me!) getting the blues?

In the words of Dirty Harry, "Do you feel lucky? Well, do you?"

I'd at least test it. But then, I'd rather be safe than sorry. :)

There's a long way between "should be" and "is". :-)

I think many of us can tell tales of woe about batiks or hand dyes running. I know I can, which is why I'm such a religious pre-washer.

I always prewash my batiks......always. I broke one of my biggest rules and bought a batik at JoAnns. It was red and bled like a stuck pick. I have never had a problem with quilt store batiks running but this one from JoAnns never stopped running. I tried everything and each time I washed it, it would bleed. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

It was a beautiful batiks and had to be thrown out.

Never again will I buy a batik from JoAnn's and I really love JoAnns, just for other things.

Peace and please don't throw rocks,
