Everybody Out!

Hey, I *love* my clothesline. I honestly do. I get a big charge out of hanging the clothes out, and how good they smell when you bring them in. I even love wearing a "clothespin apron". Isn't that weird? I know exactly how much wind, and how much heat, and how much humidity makes for a perfect "clothes-hanging-out day". However, I don't love it between the months of November-February.

Now that is something I just cant wrap my brain around being a good thing, a dryer not vented to the outside!? I cannot fathom the amount of lint and moisture that would build up inside my home if mine weren't vented to the great outdoors. I have asthma and terrible dust allergies.

So just how does your dryer work? How do you not drown in the moist air? and what of all the little bunnies and furballs that tend to mate and come to life in the dryer? where do they go? how do you contain them?

Downunder the 'usual' household dryer isn't vented outside, nor have I seen one with a condensation filter. Mine is about 14 years old so newer models may differ.

Mine has a vent at the front in the door which is cleaned every load or two ( depending on the fabric and wether it is just a 10 minute finish off. The heating element was replaced a couple of years ago and this is the only time it has been 'pulled to bits'. This was done by a electrician, but I don't think it is something the untrained are supposed to do.

No, Jeanne, you somehow find things that most people don't, and can't, find. I don't know how you do it. I google often but only find a great site once every 6-9 months. You find great sites almost daily. You do something more than type words and hit search. Some people can google a little, some people google well, and then there are a few like yourself who have attained "google greatness" and find the most fantastically useful web sites on the net. I don't know if it is a skill or a talent, but whatever it is you definitely have it.

The upstairs dryer has vented into my kitchen ceiling for more than ten years now. One of the spiffy things we got by renting the whole house was notable lack of dryer upstairs. I've got a drop ceiling in my kitchen so we always knew when the neighbors were doing laundry.

I know mine isn't old Jeanne, just mention the age to refer to the fact that newer dryers may be different.

The only reason that the electrician did the work is that he is a friend and he has a deal with DH. Electrician does the electrical work and DH does the carpentry work and/or supplies tools and advice.

I only have a clothes line under the roofed deck and often in winter clothes may need 'finishing off' in the dryer. I don't have a hot water cupboard like you..our hw heater is outside.

Mine has a condensation tank too as I don't have an outside wall in the right place. The clever machine takes all the moisture out of the drying clothes and puts it in a tank which pulls out like a drawer and which I empty into the sink (just the water). No moisure comes out of the machine as it all goes into the tank. All the floating fluff goes into the fluff filter which I also empty.

I'm very happy with it, and also like the idea that no wildlife can decided to come in through the outside vent!

It's a condensation dryer, perfectly -er, dry. Clothes spin around in the drum and get hot air blown oper them, just like any dryer, and the moisture gets collected in a plastic tank down at the bottom. One step up from distilled water, since it will contain the occasional bit of fiber, but great for watering plants that hate high-calcium water, like gardenias. I use it in the iron too. There are 2 filters, one for the water and the other inside the door for the air. No bunnies, works great, no critters lurking in any outside vent! and here its been between April and September too, in fact I put my rotary drier in the garage and only got it out again last week! Its cost me a fortune to dry clothes this summer.
