laundry question

Well the tricky thing is I don't think they're oil spots -they just LOOK like oil spots - they weren't there BEFORE washing....

Do you have any Dawn liquid dish soap? That is a good degreaser and I've used it to spot clean T shirts before washing. Also, so you use liquid fabric softener? I've found that sometimes it will leave spots on clothes if the rinse water pressure coming in to the machine isn't strong enough or fast enough to dilute the softener. My old washing machine was famous for doing that! Donna

Try rewashing them without softener. neither the liquid that goes in the washer, nor dryer sheets. Especially if you are trying a new brand. If you use dryer sheets, you might want to run a load of towels or sheets as hot as you can to get any that has built up out of the drum. IME it is the dryer sheets that do it, though we did have issues for a while after one of the DD's put undilluted softener concentrate into the softener dispenser in the washer. It was a lot of annoying work to clean that out because it solidified after she ran her load.

If that is the problem and not something wierd(1), just remember to not use softener every time and you should be OK.

NightMist (1) something wierd, if you have or have ever had kids or a DH you know wierd things find their way into the laundry!(2)

(2) Oh come on! Like you have never pried a baked earthworm out of the lint filter, or found out that somebody had bath oil beads in their pocket for no explicable reason!(3)

(3) the bath oil beads make a good case for reminding ones self to check pockets before washing. The earthworm sorta discourages the practice.(4)

(4) Yes I confess, live animals of the size to fit in pockets give me the squinkles.

I think I'm going to try rewashing by hand and hanging to dry. That way I can spot on extra Tide to start (that's my usual soap) and then avoid dryer sheets (in case that's the problem).

Weird that it only seems to be MY clothes that are affected. :)

Squashed ones do, for sure, but dead vegetables give me more of a squeem, on the whole...

I confess to be almost OCD about checking jeans pockets. I would check them while sorting laundry then recheck them while filling the washer. I finally cut out the second step by buttoning them after checking. Unbuttoned jeans that somehow appear directly in the laundry room (like after heavy duty yardwork) are easily spotted by the open waistband.

Of course everything I find ends up going into the pockets of the jeans I am wearing...

I think it could be the dryer sheets. I've had it happen to me a couple times, especially if it's a full load and the sheet gets "stuck" to one or two items and doesn't circulate through the whole load. If that's the cause, just a regular cycle in the machine will re move it!

What kind of fabric softener are you using? Bounce does this sometimes.

You might try washing the shirts with shampoo. It should remove the oily spots; if it doesn't the shirts will at least smell soo nice. Polly

Any chance you were using a dryer sheet? They tend to do that on fabrics with synthetics in them. I don't use dryer sheets anymore, it got annoying!
