Florida wild fires

The dry weather in Florida is really causing havoc with fires. Just call us the Western Australia. I am sending a link to a map showing how the state is just filled with fire. Every morning I wake up and can smell the smoke.

Wow! That's amazing and quite frightening! I hope you get some rain soon.

I called my mom today and she had just returned from a picnic a neighbor had for Mother's Day. She lives in Ocala, Florida. The picnic ended early because it began to pour! There were no complaints though - in fact they all did a happy dance. This was a group all in their late 80's. Must have been quite a sight to see! You go, Mom!

We didn't get a drop today, but I saw the radar and it did look like rain clouds passed over the Ocala area. Hooray for them! There are a lot of "officials" that are worried about our fresh water deep wells that are so low that the salty ocean water is starting to fill these wells. That could really be a disaster here.

Hope you all get some relief. Just damp weather is better than dry. When we have bad fires here it can be weeks of smoke (and ash if it is close enough) Stay inside and keep the air on if you can. Breathing that yucky air not a good thing. You do need to get out and do what I call a California rain dance.... wash you car. It seems to rain more after a car wash than any other time.

I had a message from my son in Leesburg that it rained at least 4 hrs early last night. He lives in the Ocala National forest and the smoke is heavier there.

Barbara, back in SC becase of the smoke in FL

Oh, how awful. That must be so distressing and frightening. I hope people manage to stay safe. We saw the pictures from Los Angeles on our news. It looked like a volcano. Take care. . In message , Boca Jan writes

Yeah, see that spot in the general area under the 295 sign? That's where I am. So far, they've been to the east and west of me with nothing in the middle. DH and I rode down one of the roads that had been closed during the worst of the closest fire. Wow... nice and green then blackened, charred sweeps of pine trees. You can see where it jumped the road and went along its merry way. Now, I am a firm believer in fire being a natural process of the forest and it needs to burn from time to time. But this one is said to have been started deliberately because they caught the person who did it, even though the news is still saying lightning was the cause. Maybe Lightning is his last name...

I've been watching the fires on TV and can't imagine how frightening the situation must be. I sure hope everyone can stay safe and out of harms way.

We have to deal with cold & snow here in Central NY but thankfully we do not have earthquakes, fires, tornados or hurricanes.
