Fires in Florida

R U O K Gill? Those fires in Florida look pretty scary - of course we KNOW they always show the most dramatic shots, but we hope they`re no-where near you, anyway.

Gill is on vacation at the moment so we'll just hope she's faaaar away and if the fire's near her home, that someone is watching out for it.

Fortunately they've had some drenching rain in Gill's area and that's helped a lot

So far we haven't been as lucky further South and East, but they are saying thundershowers for tonight. I hope they're right for a change.

Thanks for the concern, guys!! We are just fine. We could certainly use more rain. We had .49 inch on Tuesday morning, and another .22 inch on Wednesday. That is all, none last month, and a .25 inch the month before, so we really are still bone dry. We were only a half-hour from home, down near Tampa with a bunch of old, and new, friends at a camping rally.

We got home today to a flooded kitchen. I opened the back door, and could hear water running from behind the washer. Then I looked down and the laundry room and kitchen were lakes. After bailing out the water, we pulled the washer and dryer out. There was some mouse poop ( or rat), and the telephone wire was chewed in half. There was a box of fire-ant poison and they/it had eaten its way through the plastic of the box. Then they decided to nibble on the hot water hose for the washer, and that is where the trouble came from! Fortunately the cleaning lady was in on Wednesday, and all was fine then; we had planned to head straight north from the rally, but had to delay the trip for a week to have a little skin cancer removed next week. A darn good thing really!!

Well, Back to my unpacking; I really do appreciate the concern, though!!

That`s what I like to hear - a well prepared house that knew about fires in Florida and took it`s own steps to keep itself fire-proof!

Good like with the skin cancer removal - and have a great holiday. We just had our second big thunderstorm of the day - and another downpour as we got back from the hospital. Good Lord, we nearly got lost in that place - the grounds are ENORMOUS.

I HATE water in the wrong place. We came home to that one midnight when a pipe had come adrift when we were having a new kitchen fitted. Our dear ex son in law turned out at 1 a.m. with one of those water-sucker-upper things. bless him. It was six inches deep in places.

I just read this note and realized that you reported having a flood. Now that doesn't sound like a fun thing, why did you allow something like that to happen.

For real now, I'm so sorry. I had a problem with a chipmunk, or a mouse in my trailer in the Poconos some years back so I know how much damage those little critters can cause. I was luckier than you, no water, but what a mess it left.

LOL!!!!!

We really lucked out one time. On the day we were leaving for the weekend, I woke up early to hear water running. Followed the sound to the basement, which had water on the floor and more water squirting out the hot water hose for the washer. Must have been a really weak spot in the hose, since it's a pressure hose. Anyway, if it had happened about 2 or 3 hours later...

That¹s about the way it happened when my hot water tank let go. I heard something the day before we were going away. Never would have heard the drip, drip, drip unless I was hustling laundry.
