I am sure glad they made Color Catchers

I have some cotton flannel big pieces and little pieces and all different colors. One of those big pieces was black. I was told to just put it all into the washer and wash it on hot to shrink it. Well I did and put the sheet in. Now this sheet when it went in was WHITE when it came out it was BLACK. Everything else is the color it is supposed to be. YIPPEE.

Guess I ain't braindead yet.

Glad you mentioned those...! I'm going to wash some batiks but I think Synthropol is recommend ( or is it Retayne?)...I've wondered if those colorcathers would be just as good??? Mary

Synthrapol. Harder to find, but in the long run more cost effective than color catchers.

Synthrapol is a great product for washing and removing the excess dye, but it will not 'catch' the excess dye like a Color Catcher. I don't think they are interchangeable??? I use them together when I do my hand-dying.

True. I don't have as much experience with color catchers. And my experience with hand dyeing is limited to more-or-less solid colors. We'll go with your recommendation.

I use Color Catchers for batiks, marbles - everything. I have never had a problem with bleeding after using them.

Besides using Color Catchers for quilt fabric, I wash new clothing if made from dark colors or other colors that might run. I've been completely happy with the results I get from Color Catchers.
