Join us in our BOM for 2011

Since I posted asking for help by proofreading my patterns over the next year - I had several takers. A couple of folks also suggested that others may not want to proofread the instructions -- but may actually want to make the blocks!

We're doing pieced baskets (advanced beginner skill) with appliquéd contents. I won't be supplying specific appliqué instructions -- only the patterns. So choose the method of your choice: needle turn or fusible or whatever method you like best!

At the end of the year -- I can suggest finishing ideas -- but you are certainly welcome to take these 12 blocks and set them as you choose.

So if you would like to join us -- I've created a Yahoo! group where you will find the patterns, we can help each other out, post pictures and just have fun with it.

Just click below -- and we'll get busy making a new basket block every month!

Great idea, Kate! See you on Yahoo, though I'm not sure I'll keep up.

Hi Kate,

I don't think I'll keep up with a BOM, but I know I shall enjoy hearing about other people's successes, so good sewing to you all.

Are you restarting the Quilting & Finishing yahoo group this year? That one I do find gives me a boost towards getting some things off the UFO list.

Just joined and looked at the block. While I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up and the applique is definitely beyond my current skill level, it's why I like to do BOM's - gives me a chance to learn new techniques and attempt to perfect some skills. And while I'm not really a fan of scrappy, that's probably what mine will be more like as I'll probably be using mostly what little stash I have. Should be fun.

Thanks, Kate.

for those questioning their confidence level in appliqué -- overall the blocks will NOT be complex appliqué. One of the easies methods is fusible with either a blanket stitch or satin stitch around the edges.

If you want to give it a try -- feel free to post in the Yahoo! group or here on RCTQ directly with any questions you have whether about appliqué or any other part of the blocks.

You'll find lots of willing helpers!

Please don't let this be a stressful undertaking. And other than the backgrounds -- scrappy (aka stash raiding) is really all you need for these blocks. Backgrounds can be all the same fabric -- or all the same general color (i.e., bright white, off white, beige....)

Hope you have fun!!

Oh, I agree Polly. I've gotten the piecing part of the block completed and am working on the applique pieces now. I'm trying my hand at needle turn vs. fusible. More to my liking for hand work. We'll see how well it turns out. My stash is limited to leftovers from previous projects. I really didn't realize quite how much of stash I had until looking for pieces for this project! It should be fun.
