BOM Site

I am new to quilting and to the group, but vaguely remember looking at someone's site which had a pieced BOM, a paper pieced BOM, and an appliqued BOM - with pics of folks completed blocks, etc. At the time I did not bookmark it.

Now I am learning paper piecing and am particularly interested in seeing both patterns and completed blocks which were paper pieced.

Can anyone give me the site and tell me if this something I need to join or if it available to anyone?

Thanks!

Linda, I don't play with the BOM group - but if you'd like to look at lots of paper-pieced blocks as well as how various quilters approached them, go to

and wander around Marsha's site. You'll never ever be able to look at everything but it's always a great visit. Polly

hi Linda,

the past yrs worth, well those who made them and sent pix to Teri to put up on her site are there.theres no need to do anything special to join in at any time tho.you can search thru google groups RCTQ for BOM.each month the post around the first of the month will give the links to the blocks chosen for the past months also so just checking on this yrs (tis the end of the yr now i think, we dont do Jan thru Dec here just to be different) will show all this yrs blocks in the post.you might also if persistent find all the previous yrs blocks in a post if you wander back far enough.search within RCTQ for BOM on google. easy peasy to do.oh yea, all the hug quilts pix are on that link at the top too, if you back up an album to find them, if anyone is interested i mean. :)hth, jeanne

The RCTQ BOM is available to anyone who wants to do it, anytime you want to jump in. I have only been able to do some of the applique blocks, but hope to catch up soon. I suspect the site with the completed blocks was Teri/Terbear's site:

Here is a list of all the block patterns that have been posted and the BOM rules as posted by Dannielle:

How this BOM works is I will post block patterns each month near the beginning of each month. One is pieced, one appliqué and one paper pieced. It is up to you which one (or ones) you would like to do. You will work at your own pace over the course of each month. You keep your blocks. You do not mail them to me. At the end of the year you will have twelve blocks to set into a quilt. You keep the quilt. You do not mail it to me (unless you really feel the need to give me this gift!). You will then have your very own 2006-2007 RCTQ BOM quilt. When I announce a month's block patterns, I will also include the previous months' as well so if you decide to join along the way you will have all the blocks. Pieced blocks and paper pieced blocks will be 12" in size whenever possible and appliqué blocks will be whatever I can find that is available. Feel free to size up/down if you so chose.

This BOM will run from April 2006 through May 2007. This is how the schedule breaks down: =============================================================== April 2006 - March 2007: Monthly blocks April 2007: Completing the Top (setting, sashing, borders, etc.) May 2007: Completing the Quilt (quilting, binding, labeling, etc.) - Done!

Marcia Hohn has a pin rating on her site

that rates the level of difficulty of her block patterns. One pin blocks are fairly simple and they increase in difficulty as the number of pins increase. I will start with one pin blocks and increase our difficulty as we go so that we are challenged, but not overwhelmed! I also consider myself a fairly novice quilter, and these will all be blocks I would be willing to try (well, maybe not the appliqué). Most of the blocks with only have three colors to them; however, some of them may have four.

Finished blocks can be seen at

formatting link
must give a very large THANK YOU! to Teri for maintaining thegallery!

Hi Linda Welcome to the group. We are a friendly bunch, and there are a lot of really knowledgeable people hanging out here. I'm sure there is someone on here with an answer to everything. No, not one person that knows everything, just collective knowledge. I see you already got the answer to the question you asked.

Let us know something about yourself. QI's (pets), chocolate preferrence, what part of the country you hail from, and whatever else you choose to share.

Interestingly, I spent part of my morning checking out patterns on

formatting link
thinking about paper piecing...hmmm all of a sudden I'm in bold. I'll try to fix that...nope not obvious how to switch. sorry....

Anyway, the little bit of paper piecing I've done I have found quite enjoyable. I can't quite envision me doing a full size bed quilt that way, but maybe someday.

Anyway, I am married, a combined 16 children, 23 grandchildren and 5 more on the way. Two golden retrievers and 3 kitties (at least till my daughter moves out and takes her two with her). I'm not getting much quilting time in these days, life has kind of gotten in my way, but I try to keep up with life in the group. I live out in the boonies of Alberta, and this group is often my connection to the world.

Nice to meet you Linda.

Thanks to all for the helpful sites, etc. Can't wait to check them all out!!!!

I took a quilting class beginning last October at our local community college in preparation to make a baby quilt for my Goddaughter. Managed to do Sun and Stars baby quilt in that beginning class, but quickly got hooked on quilting. Now I am taking an Intermediate class (the Instructor is a SAINT to put up with this bunch of folks) and we just did paper piecing. I truly loved it!!! So now I am collecting patterns, etc. for paper piecing....about to embark on a small wallhanging using flowers from Carol Doak's Easy Mix and Match Machine Paper Piecing book for a friend's birthday gift.

I am finding that I love to piece the tops, but truly am not excited about the actual quilting......have to work on that part - so I am taking a one-day Machine Quilting class week after next to try to get the hang of it.

I live in the mountains of North Carolina, recently retired after working in Human Resources for 30 years. My hubby is still working (good thing - I wouldn't get to spend time quilting if he was home all the time), so my dog (QI??) and I have a grand time during the day. Dog is a Bichon/toy poodle mix (at least that was the rescue organization's best guess -- we know the mom was a Bichon, but only the Mom knows for sure who the dad was....) who thinks he's a huge doberman or something. He's a whopping 8 lbs but thinks like a 90 pounder!

As to my chocolate preference: ANYTHING chocolate is just right.

Again - thanks for the great information. I love reading this group!!!!
