RCTQ BOM ?

Have we given up? My last appliqué is July. Yahoo-Geocities says the website doesn't exist anymore. But Yahoo isn't the most trustworthy thing around . . . .

i've not heard from Jess about anything since her last post about her puter crashing and now only haveing one a friend gave her, old and not so hot from what i can gather. last one to talk with her was Els who also lives in the Netherlands and called her. i'm very worried about Jess. tis totally out of character for her to be gone for so long. i dont know whats up with geo-cities, not been to any of their sites for ages. i hate to say this but maybe someone else could take over the BOM til we hear from Jess. no point in those who look forward to it not having something to play with, eh.

I haven't heard from Jessamy either, despite sending a snail mail letter. I think that 'life' has just caught up with her at the moment. I hope that she will feel up to re-emerging soon. We do worry.

Yes I agree about the BOM, though I'm not participating this year. It does seem a shame for people to be left with orphan blocks and disappointment.

WRT the website Jessamy was going to drop the Yahoo-Geocities one and move over to:

As to the BOM itself why couldn't 10 people each take on choosing the blocks for one month each? That way when Jessamy comes back to RCTQ she does not have to play catch up so much.

Just a thought

IIRC She said she lost some of her new patterns and part of her book she had written when her computer died. She is probably busy trying to get it pulled from the computer or re-written amongst all the normal things life throws out. I would imagine she will be gone for awhile while she tries to get things caught up.

As for the block of the month, if someone were to take it over, than that would be one less thing for her to catch up with and hopefully relive some the stress she must be experiencing.

I seem to recall the at BOM had expanded to BOMsss! When I did mine there were two - a pieced 12" and an applique 8", but then they were joined by a paper piecing too, weren't they?

Seems to me that in the long run this makes what could be a fairly simple task - just choosing one a month - into a mammoth.

I enjoy applique, but I know there were difficulties in finding suitable patterns when I did it - wasn't Jessamy actually designing them, or have I mis-remembered.

Perhaps if we simplified the task by saying just from Quilters Cache it wouldn't be quite as daunting.

Well I may end up regretting this but if you are all in agreement then I could set the BOM for the rest of this year if you like. Please all let me know if you'd like me to do this. I know I'm relatively new on here and not doing the bom for this year but I can spare the time. If I set one you've already done in previous year someone could let me know and I could find another. Well what do you all think? Apart from 'she must be mad'

What a great offer, Elly. I've got copies of the patterns for the past two years, so I can check your each time, if you like - I printed them out. I did one year, but not the second - yet! Quilters Cache really is a great and helpful resource for this enterprise: no need to work out a pattern as the instructions are there. . In message , Elly writes

The appliqué blocks were from something Jessamy had designed prior to agreeing to do the BOM. So I guess the rest of the appliqué blocks were lost on her computer.

Life gets in the way of all of us at times -- new job, physically threatened by another teacher, stalker, dealing with smells and bugs from downstairs condemned apartment, court appearances, witness to shooting -- those are just a few of mine from July 9-September 8.

I've got a little Sunbonnet Sue in with my applique ones too which makes it up to 12

Both mine were Christmas ones, and in fact I got them out today to look at the Sue as I'm doing one as a little thank you for the friend who organised our 50 years school reunion last week. It was the first time I'd seen any of them since I was 17 and some I recognised straight away.

It was a 2 day meetup and I have never talked so much in my life. It was very odd - almost like meeting 14 sisters - and all roughly within 6 months of me in age - very strange, the years just disappeared.

That is kind of you Elly, and will be much appreciated by those who have already started this years BOM. I can remember rushing to get them done before the next installment - and actually finishing the quilts!!

I was doing the BOM this year - a regular pieced, a paper-pieced, and a foundation-pieced each month, if I remember correctly. About the time Jessamy stopped posting them, my mom got sick and I've been back and forth to NC without much quilting time, but I would like to get back to the blocks because I intended to put them into a quilt for my brother and his wife eventually. I think it would be great if you would be willing to take up the job. I sent a snail mail to Jessamy but never heard back from her.

If it helps, I think this was the last thing Jessamy sent:

How this BOM works is I will post block patterns each month near the beginning of each month. One is pieced, one appliqué and one paper pieced. It is up to you which one (or ones) you would like to do. You will work at your own pace over the course of each month. You keep your blocks. You do not mail them to me. At the end of the year you will have twelve blocks to set into a quilt. You keep the quilt. You do not mail it to me (unless it's not pink and/or purple and you really feel the need to give me this gift!). You will then have your very own

2007-2008 RCTQ BOM quilt. When I announce a month's block patterns, I will also include the previous months' as well so if you decide to join along the way you will have all the blocks. All blocks will be 12" in size whenever possible. Feel free to size up/down if you so chose.

This BOM will run from June 2007 through July 2008. This is how the schedule breaks down: =============================================================== June 2007 - May 2008: Monthly blocks June 2008: Completing the Top (setting, sashing, borders, etc.) July 2008: Completing the Quilt (quilting, binding, labelling, etc.) - Done! August 2008: start of the next BOM

that rates the level of difficulty of her block patterns. One pin blocks are fairly simple and they increase in difficulty as the number of pins increase. I will start with one pin blocks and increase the difficulty as we go so that you are challenged, but not overwhelmed! I will be try to keep the blocks at a level most quilters would be able to make. Most of the blocks with only have three colours to them; however, some of them may have more.

The blocks:

June 2007: Pieced Block: Arrowhead Puzzle - nice and easy with NO triangles!

Paper Pieced Block: Arkansas Traveler Variation

Appliqué: Flower

July: Pieced block: Mini bow tie

I read murder mysteries before I go to sleep at night. I forgot to add the school lockdown -- gang fight at 3:20 PM in the street around the park at the end of the teacher parking lot at school. And this is what happens in one of the better neighborhoods in Reno. But that was two weeks ago -- not in my marathon wacko time during July-September. Things will get better -- they always do. Meanwhile, life goes on. I have a TRO against the stalker. The police actual charged him with the crime of stalking, so that trial is November 8. Life was never this "exciting" in the East or Midwest. I don't think Reno is my kind of town.

And to think that people JOKE about quilting being therapy! It's my sanity.
