Kinda OT - Burma Shave signs

There is a quilt part way through so not entirely off topic

TURN UP THE VOLUME !!!

You may need to watch it twice; once to watch the Burma shave signs change and once to catch all the pictures plus listening to the music of the Statler Brothers.

THIS IS REALLY GREAT !!! For those of you too young to remember "too bad you missed it !!"

Did you see the picture of the "Lucky Stars" quilt? I made that quilt for my dh.......how could it be from back in the day?

I do remember alot of those pictures (born 1956) but I don't recall ever seeing the Burma Shave signs.....

I was born in 1954, I do remember the signs here in the midwest. The quilt was pretty.

And I grew up on country music, so I was singin' along with the boys! :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for bringing back some wonderful memories!! :)

Oh yes ... that quilt pattern was the first one I ever made - about 10 or so years ago!! :)

Hugs!!

The quilt was pretty but I think the colors were too vibrant to have been from the Burma Shave era. I grew up in Ohio from the late 40s through the early 60s. I remember the Burma Shave signs and a lot of the other things too!"

I wonder how many people are asking themselves what "D. A." stands for!

duck tail? (well, another word for tail)

We didn't date those guys because they were bad -- they were "hoods." They smoked cigarettes. And wore black leather jackets. Maybe even rode motorcycles. And dropped out of school. I believe the stereotype was better known in later years as The Fonz!!

See what we missed by not dating those guys? I just loved The Fonz! VBEG

My parents were teachers, and we often traveled by car for several weeks over the summer. Loved the Burma Shave signs. I also remember a lot of the other stuff, and have always loved that song. However, do you really remember what the Lucky stars were that you collected?

Were they from Lucky Strike cigarette packages?

Yep. you collected them to redeem for "stuff". I don't remember what stuff because the smokers in my family didn't smoke Lucky Strikes. We did collect the Raleigh coupons though..........

No Lucky smokers in my family either. I don't think my folks collected the Raleigh coupons either, but I do remember the commercials.

I think it came from James Dean - says how old I am that I remember most of these.

LOL shouldn't be anybody who remembers seeing them...Dad was "trying" to not have me say bad words, but...ah well.....think my uncle had a DA before he went in the Air FOrce, but I might be mistaken. I know Dad didn't because he was forced into buzz cuts and then he went into the Army...now he has a ponytail .

LOL! Hubby left the Army Nat'l Guard about 7 years ago, grew a beard and hasn't shaved it off since! He calls it his "personality" - and his mom HATES it!!

Every day, for about 5 years, he'd complain about not being able to grow a beard (every time he had enough fur on his face to qualify as a beard, he'd have to shave it off for Drill)! Now he's got one and I don't think he'll EVER shave it off! :)
