and is only about 6" square. It has special light cells - not just a daylight bulb, and you can set it so that it turns off after a set time. I have it in front of me while I have breakfast and its set for 20 minutes so it isn't an inconvenience, I'm sitting there anyway. Its too early to say if it makes any difference, but it can't do any harm and as I'm not a morning person - even in midsummer I will be quite happy with a summer 'reading'!

I like sitting in the sun on the couch by my patio door with a cat on my lap and a good book. A good antidote for the winter blues if the weather cooperates. :) Allison

That is a good antidote. Unfortunately for me, the weather usually cooperates on days when I'm stuck at work.

Polly, those lights are made by a company called Northern Light Technologies, (

). There may be others also. I got one for my wife just after we moved from Calif to Ohio about 12 years ago and she used it for a few years during the long grey winter months hereabouts. She has not felt she needed to use them the last few years so I guess you can get used to anything. They were rather expensive then, about $250, so I shudder to think what they might cost now with the dollar going in the tank. They do work, but you will pay for it. You have to sit in front of it for about a half an hour a day to get any benefit, as they trick your eyes into thinking it is bright and sunny out, and unless you take that block of time it doesn't work. She used to read the paper in front of the light and that seemed to be a good way to waste the half hour, rather than just sitting there. John

Good gracious alive! I had no idea that those lights were so expensive. Just the price of the corkscrew ones we have kinda stagger me. Polly

You're welcome!

And, thank you to all who posted their suggestions. With all the ideas, I'm sure I'll come up with something. Not sure what yet, but something!
