Looking for comments on the Juki TL-98Q

I've been wanting to get another machine for wuilting. In my collection there is an old Singer handcrank for those days when there is no electricity, a Singer Featherweight for quilting on the go, and my trusty Bernina 1090 (nearly an antique?). Has anyone ever tried or own the Juki TL-98Q? I'm mainly interested in the large throat area for quilting, the large work surface and the knee lift (I'm spoiled from the Bernina with the knee lift). If anyone has any recomendations, I'm open, but want to keep the price to below $1,000. Thanks! Dave

I've got a Brother 1500 and love it. Sounds similar.

I've been looking at that one and the Brother1500. I've pretty much decided on the Brother, but the main deciding factor is that I can't get a Juki locally, but I can get the Brother. It's important to me to have someplace local for warrenty service. If there was a Juki dealer nearby (or even anywhere in the state!), it would be a harder decision for me.

I don't have either the Juki or the Brother that others have recommended, but I do know that Kathy Sandbach (she does fantastic machine quilting) uses a Brother and loves it. I think she said that the one she uses, with a huge throat, was around $800.

Yes, Sandy - you're right about Kathy Sandbach's machine. I understand that the sewing machine store nearby me ships all over the country, because they have the best price - hard to believe in California, huh? If anyone is interested, I can give you their phone number (or I can call to verify the price) NAYY. I do believe it is about $800.

What else can I say but the Janome 6500P but have no idea how much it is over there. It is aimed at quilters and has an extra large throat and a knee lift, and comes with an enormous table thingy, walking foot and clever stitches. It is very solid and also very very quiet and doesn't clunk like my old one.

As mine only arrived this morning, I am a little biased - it will be the only thing in the house that gets dusted!

I've seen them for sale on E-Bay for under $1000.

I don't have one but I know a couple of people who have the Brother 1500. It's around $800-900. I understand the pin feed feature is really nice for more control of the fabric. I believe it also has the knee lift, thread cutter, threader. I know I would love to have one and plan on it, hopefully this year.
