machine quilting questions

Have any of you owned and used the Flynn quilt frame? It sure looks like a good idea for someone wanting portability, and lower cost.

Also, I've found a sewing machine that has a long arm and can stand alone without a frame called Bailey's Home Quilter that I'm wondering about. I mean - is it worth 1500.00? Or am I better off with a regular brand like Janome that's larger than average in the harp space but not a long arm?

I dunno- the Flynn Frame looks terribly clunky and awkward to me. And the area taken up by the frame would make the available quilting area under your sewing machine's harp just that much smaller, I would think. Don't know anything about the Bailey's.

Keep in mind, too, that because you are moving the frame through the machine, you need space the length of the frame on both sides of the machine. You probably want it supported at each end, too, so you would need a long table to do even a small quilt and doing a queen size quilt would require 7 feet or so on EACH side of the machine.

as for the size of the harp, available for quilting, I've already informed my husband about the necessity for a new machine, and "offered" to let him buy it for me for Christmas as long as I get to name the machine. That's why I was asking about the Baileys machine, it's a portable long arm that allows all kinds of quilting space.

As for the large table - I have a very long dining room table that I can use. The nice thing about the Flynn frame is that I can take it off the table and set it aside when necessary, rather than having the permanent 15 foot space necessary for all the other frames I've seen so far.

Since I'm planning on going to the International Q show in Chicago, in November, I plan on trying out everything that's at the show , both machines and frames, to help make my decision. So excited am I!
