Home quilting machine

Andrea, I have a Pfaff grand quilter (not a longarm by any means) with an Inspira frame. I have had it for a couple of years now but just added a stich regulator to it. It works much easier and to me is less stressful than trying to quilt on a regular sewing machine. I get alot more accomplished because the quilt stays put until I have time to work on it. You do have to have space to put the frame.

Why do you have to send them out?

It is a bit more wrestling and work to quilt 'by hand' on a machine but I have quilted king sized quilts as big as 114"x120" on my babylock machine with only a 6 1/2" throat and the biggest one I have ever done on it was HEAVILY stippled too. You just have to use a lot of pins and be very patient. My father in law built me a wonderful frame for my babylock 2 yrs ago and I have honestly only used it once, it is a nice to have for me but I think I prefer the hands on but it may be different for you.

I have (but not set up yet....sigh) a Tin Lizzie 18. It is fairly reasonably priced and comes with a sturdy frame (except for the poles, you have to buy them separately) and I am really looking forward to setting it up and using it.

I have a friend that had the Gracie and found that it killed her back and shoulder to use it. She got an Inspira and she really has done a lot of neat quilts on it without the pain. Makes you think about doing some serious testing before you buy a set up.

It isn't mine, but my aunt recently bought a Handiquilter longarm. She lives right next to us, and lets me play on it anytime I want :-) I do love it. I've done two quilts so far. The stitch regulator makes for beautiful stitches even for a novice. So far it's given us no problems. The only real problem was, the seller of the machine gave her practically NO after-sale support.
