Spent a wonderful three hours with Bronnie and her husband last night talking a mile a minute. The little RV which they have rented to drive across the US has really inspired my husband. He had often thought of traveling in an RV but didn't like the hassle of a big vehicle. This one is adequate for two people but is the size of a large van.
The husbands are both computer types so found lots to talk about while Bronnie and I talked quilts. Sorry to say I don't share her other major interest of cooking. Of course there is always lots to talk about when learning about other countries.
Bronnie hasn't been quite honest with us about her foot injury. She actually had broken a small bone in her foot so has been hobbling on crutches while touring several beautiful National Parks. She is officially off the crutches but planned to wear her orthopedic boot for added support and protection while touring Chicago today and tomorrow. They have had lovely weather during their entire trip. Friday it might rain in Chicago so they are saving the inside tours such as museums for Friday. Bronnie thinks it is funny that she has played tennis for years and never even twisted an ankle yet she breaks her foot just walking across a little uneven plot of ground.
Their RV park is in a rather isolated area without any restaurants. I had hoped to take them to something charming and very American but had to settle for a very good Mexican restaurant. We were all glad that Dave and I had driven to the RV park last Sunday as we scouted for a restaurant. There is road construction in the area making it difficult to find the park. The GPS system thought we were driving through a corn field. Dave was able to give them good directions when they called earlier in the day to set a time for our meet-up. Leaving them in the RV park after dinner made me anxious for my son to move into his condo so I will again have a guest room. Hopefully the next time an RTCQ member passes through the area I will be able to offer them a bed and warm shower.
