Today is Memorial Day here in the United States of America. I pause to remember those Americans who paid the ultimate price for the freedom I enjoy today. I appreciate all the men and women who have served honorably since 1775.
Some died right here in my county: Battle of Yorktown, October 1781. Years later, the Civil War raged here too. I sometimes wonder if troops passed through (what is now) my property on the way to battle.

Wow, wouldn't that have been something, to feel as though troops were on your land "way back then"!
Just found out my nephew will be stationed on the east coast instead of deployed to Afghanistan.

My flag banner is on my front door. I have so many Vets in my family, my dad is a disabled Vet...you'd never know it tho! My son is former Marine, Uncles, Decendents..all the way back to the Revolutionary War. I pass Fort Stanwix in Rome every day on my way to work. I doubt I'm likely to forget. This is an especially exciting Memorial Day. My son is in Iraq but will be home in two weeks and he just made LtCol. as of June 1. Pray for all our troops both here and overseas. Donna in Bellevue (Military daughter, wife and mother)
Not so much about memorial day (and it doesn't come close to putting your life on the line), but still testament to the character of the guys and gals we send out. I posted this on my Facebook profile on Sunday, and would like to share it with you too:
Chivalry is not dead - late last night on the train a guy bravely put up with being chastised by a couple of drunk party guys for not appreciating me, his wife, enough and knowing enough about my hobbies. He played right along, and I didn't have to deal with those two (or more!) thinking I was on my own. He was ex-military, now a trauma-nurse, having just be to Afghanistan to work at a field hospital for local military. What a hero!

On Memorial Day here in Halifax Nova Scotia , we have a service at the burial ground for the POW s( US soldiers) of the war of 1812 . The US consul attends on behalf of the USA Ruby
