Remember a while back when I said I was making Memory Pillows for SILs and their DD's? Well, when SIL came she brought 2 grocery bags FULL of men's ties : ) I knew she was pleased with the one I made her---but now I know HOW pleased she was. I'm tickled. We are going to have a 'take the ties apart' day : ) She even offered to 'pin up' some blocks I have made on the Design Wall and get them ready for sewing. I'm tickled : )

There is a bargain fabric shop in Glasgow (at the eastern edge of the Barras, the big flea market) which sells tie fabric by the yard - they have dozens of bolts of it in stock. It all seems to be associated with organizations - ties for stewards on airlines that have changed their uniform, hotel staff for chains that have been absorbed by bigger companies, lodges that must have been disbanded after their membership all died off, and anniversaries nobody wants to remember any more.
I can't remember their name and they are very unlikely to sell over the net, but worth a visit when you're in Glasgow. You never know WHAT they'll have. We got some useful furnishing fabric there, and some "we'll find a use for this one day" things like fabric printed with big illustrations from a Victorian cookbook. One item that was just too odd for us to imagine ever using was BIG maps of the USA - repeat of about a yard, only one map per width - but with all the text in Italian.
