mostlyOT - I deserve a pat on the back

bought a secure wireless router to replace my unsecured router. Once I changed routers, I lost the internet connection on my wireless laptop that I had had with the unsecured router. So began a 3 day frustration (whenever it got too bad I got out my scraps and started cutting pieces for a new scrappy top) trying to figure out why my desktop computer had an internet connection but my laptop couldn't access the internet in my network. This morning, as snow gently falls out my window, I once again went through all the contol panel;my network connections, learning all about lan, wlan, ssid, tcp/ip, dhcp, mac addresses, subnet masks, default gateways, ip addresses ad infinitum. After doing waht I swear I'd already done before...voila! So the pat on the back is not for my wizardry, but for my patience and diligence in coming back to the problem, time after time, just so that I could access rctq and read all your posts!

WELL DONE!! Do you give lessons?

You have more patience than me. I usually call for tech support from someone who is SUPPOSED to know how to do these things. But after my recent disastrous foray into things technical (attempting to establish a WIN98 environment in a virtual machine so I could run 98 applications outside XP) I may have to get back up to speed and start doing these things myself!

Atta Girl!!!!! Those kinds of things eat away at me until I get it figured out. Though I don't know if I have the knowledge to figure that one out! Good for you! KJ

Thank you one and all. I'm still enjoying my connection, so perhaps it'll stick!! I also usually call tech support, but conveietly, this particular product has none except online! Good thing I had the desktop pc.

Good for you!! The thing they don't tell you in the manual is that you have to do the procedure *exactly* the same at least twice for it to work. Some systems you have to do ti three times ;-)

well i'm impressed. i know some stuff bout this machine and i'm self taught but not sure i'd have the perseverence to figure it out before throwing the puter out the window or swearing lots or calling for help or just living without whatever it was that had gone amiss. well done indeed!! now do you give lessons? cheers, jeanne
