Moving questions

Gee whiz - my brain is in moving FOG.

Left out what I originally wanted to say.

Got a phone call from the "middle man" in this whole thing and they are now telling us that they won't move any of my home business OR MY PERSONAL SEWING MACHINE because it's a hobby. Really? You have got to be kidding me.

My DH asked them if they were moving his tools and they said well of course. He tells them that those are HIS hobby but that doesn't make a difference.

Lord help me get through this....

We have no say so in the choice of the moving company. They are being hired out by DH's company. They used to go out for bids and they always ended up having claims in the long run. With this company - NO CLAIMS AT ALL.....

Remind them of the saying that you can tell people about positive or negative experiences and how it can affect that company's future.

Tell them it's HIS hobby and see what they make of that!

???...Why won't they move hobby equipment. Is it a liability issue or...? Are they afraid you will sue them if they break it. How do they figure your home business is a hobby?

Review your paperwork and see if it says so in there. Ask for their definition of business versus hobby. If they won't change, find someone else. It seems in these economic times they would be wanting to have a job to do.

Our experience was great but that was 10+ years ago. The company DID pack all of my sewing room stuff, too! Be sure the keep a roll of toilet paper and paper towels set aside. Now, where in Georgia are you moving to? There are several of us here who live in GA (AKA Magnoliaville) so maybe you will be moving close to one of us. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Wait a minute. This makes no sense at all. It sounds like they're just making stuff up as they go along to make things difficult for you. I often feel lately like the whole world is just broken, irrational, spiteful. This sort of thing is so stressful.

Is it the moving company or your husband's employer that is saying they won't move your sewing machine?

Speaking with my lawyer hat on, I cannot imagine any sort of liability issue that would arise for the moving company or your husband's employer from moving your sewing gear, regardless of whether you sew for money or for a hobby.

Speaking as an intelligent person, I can't imagine any rational reason whatsoever why any employer or moving company would refuse to move a sewing machine.

Can you speak to this person's superior? It's just crazy.

Having moved around a lot, I've often joked that moving is like childbirth and jet lag; we repress just how stressful and painful it is. If we didn't, we'd probably never do it again. Add a crazy person like this to the mix, and I'd be tearing my hair out.

Woops. Let's don't let anger and logic interfere with our priorities. On one move of ours, I rode with great-grandma's bowl and pitcher and the dog in my lap. Wrong! I should have given my personal protection to my beloved sewing machine. You can always get another great-grandma and Jack Russell terrier. (Just kidding about the Jack Russell.) There is a way to get your SM safely and lovingly packed and shipped separately. Find one. Polly

does your DH's company know this is what the moving company is saying? Maybe they should be aware of the stress it is causing you.

It's about 25 minutes northeast of Atlanta.

So, it is a hobby .... what is the point?? Lots of stuff are 'hobby' ....pots and pans, etc. Sheesh. BTW: your house insurance may offer a supplement or rider to cover full value of items. That is to make up the difference of what the mover allows/pays. HTH. Where in Georgia is Woodstock? PAT in VA/USA

That does not make any sense. Maybe I can see the home business if they are supposed to be moving "personal" or "household" items. But the sewing machine? What's the reasoning behind that?
