my Saturday afternoon project

I took a break from making wedding table favors and made a little bag from a free pattern on the internet. It's called a Grab and Go bag from

I'm working on making a bigger tote bag sling from the same shape, but haven't yet sewn it. There are pockets on the inside. I added some rhinestones for a bit of bling. Cute, eh? Of course, how could I go wrong with that yummy Amy Butler fabric? I'd love to have more of it. But I think it's from one of her first lines. Long gone.

Hummmmm let me go look again! Right there on the front page it says "Quarterly Challenge".....these bags are part of the "third" challenge. You can download the pattern there.

or see if this works better. Sorry for the confusion.....it's my usual state of mind!

Thank Kathyl, that is a really useful (as well as pretty) kind of bag. Just one question: would it spoil the opening/closing of the bag to put some Velcro on the top edges? Just to stop things falling out, I thought? Not all the way across perhaps - just partial? . In message , KJ writes

You might be able to put a velcro dot in the middle so it folds in rather than out. I'd have to do some study on that......

Love it, Kathyl!! It took me a little while on the site but I finally just clicked on the bags when they came on the screen and got to the pattern. I saved it and will definitely make the bag--yours is so pretty!! Thanks for the link.

FYI....there are pockets included in the pattern, but they are pretty shallow IMHO. I'd add another inch or more to the measurement. I also pinched the middle where one might put a dot of velcro like Pat asked, and I think it would work fine. It is a cute little hobo type bag. No muss no fuss.

I had the same problem... but click on the link and it is right in front of your face, click where it says quarterly challenge or similar. sigh Took me way too long to figure that one out. thought it was just me too..... taught an all day class yesterday, scheduled some classes for the last quarter of the year and had a quilt guild meeting this morning. Plus I always blame things like that on the heat this time of year.

Really cute! The fabric was a great choice - do you get to buy shoes to match?

Yeah, it was my fault I didn't do a direct link. I think I could send the pattern directly to anyone who can't find it. So sorry about that. The couple times I was on the website the bags were the first picture. That makes it a lot easier! Sorry to all. Let me know if you'd rather just have the file sent.

Should I just make some slippers? Or maybe some yoyos to glue on my tennis shoes?

I'm picturing some decorated flip-flops!

while your study'n this, Kathyl, how about a longer handle side for those who like shoulder bags, any difficultys there? love your bag and your fabrics and bling is terrific. i can see why you'd want more of that fabric.

got the l> You might be able to put a velcro dot in the middle so it folds in rather

Yeah, that's what I have tried to draft today Jeanne. A bigger "bucket" with a longer handle that would make it more of a shoulder bag. I'm not much for holding a purse in my hand or hung over my arm. It needs to be over my shoulder for me to be comfortable. I "think" it will work. (And I have just enough of that wondeful fabric left to make one. But?! If I use it up....then it's gone!! The dilemma of a fabriholic.) I may have to make up a prototype in muslin to avoid ruining my good fabric. The wallet is the Wonder Wallet by Joan Hawley of Lazy Girl Designs. I bought that pattern quite a while ago.....I think we discussed it when Leslie was making purses for her church bazaar.

scroll down a bit to view the pattern I used a scrap of fusible batt in my Grab and Go. It's just a little puffier than I think is necessary, so I think the fusible fleece would be the perfect weight. The pattern calls for a sew-in interfacing. But I like a little more body than that. The fleece would be perfect. I don't have anything special on the bottom of the bag. It may be the way I sat it on the counter (with stuff in it) that makes it look flat on the bottom. The pockets are made all around the inside of the purse. So there are six pockets (three on each side) , but in my opinion, they aren't deep enough. I'd play with that a little more next time. I'll get a picture and let you know when I post it. Did I answer your questions? You have a good eye!

Bringing up the rear, here. I was busy designing a block that was not nearly as simple as I thought it was going to be. Really, Kathyl. You *do* know what must be done if you use up your wonderful fabric. Need company? Enabling? We can help. Polly

"KJ" Yeah, that's what I have tried to draft today Jeanne. A bigger "bucket"
