New machine

A friend just gave me a sewing machine

woohoo

Its an old hand crank.but the top is locked and I can't open it. It was given to her about 18 months ago and the base has borer in it which she can't get rid of. Now that she has given up on it I get the job and the machine. I don't know if it works and don't know the brand ( something Australian from memory) but will let you know when I find out..

Any one know how to get rid of borer ????

Howdy! So do we (call it woodworm).

One trick: place the item in a large plastic bag, spray in bug killer, quickly close bag and seal it tightly; leave it for a few days or a couple of weeks. Go quilt something. Open the bag outdoors or in a well-ventilated area (windows open, fan blowing). Dead bugs. Let the item sit outside in the sunshine to remove the smell of the bug spray (not a problem in the Tx. summer ). Worked for a couple of old wood pieces I had. The back of a large oak wardrobe had been infested before it came to live with us; I put it in the garage and sprayed the he!! out of it, covered it w/ a plastic drop cloth (paint store), then sprayed it again the next day and the next. After it aired for a week, I brought it inside and set it up. 22 yrs. later, the wardrobe is in the front living room, healthy and bug free (dust bunnies aren't bugs), w/ quilts sitting on the top of it.

Good luck! Ragmop/Sandy

Thanks Sandy.

I had thought about using the bug spray, but as kerosene had been used and didn't work I wondered if bug spray would work. I will go and give it a try now.

I agree bust bunnies aren't bugs, they are essential in any well run home ( that's my story and I'm sticking to it)

Only boring people have perfectly clean houses all the time. You ladies are obviously not boring and your dust bunnies just help prove it.
