New machine

On Monday I bought myself a new Janome 6500P from my relatively LQS. Janome is replacing this model with another so my LQS had them on sale. Sad part is I'm so busy I won't get any decent sewing time in until April.

I have a day job...secretary. I also bartend/waitress a couple nights a week during the winter months. I told DH that I'm saving my bartender wages and tips and getting something for me. I'm doing serious looking into a machine quilting frame. Last week I had phoned up my relatively LQS inquiring what frame they had set up in the store as I want to see the various frames set up and test drive that are available around here in person. The owner of the store told me I would not be happy with any frame with my current sewing machine.........I bought it from him 3 years ago. So that's how he sold me a new one!!!

The larger harp in my new machine makes me wonder how I ever machine quilted my queen/king size quilts before!!

So I"m hoping to get myself a machine quilting frame in the spring. DH and I made a deal..I have to have the rumpus room ( where it would go) cleaned up before I can buy one. It needs to be done anyway, new machine or not. Wish I had more time right now to get going on it.......cleaning, painting, steam cleaning rugs etc.

Ann.........who is off to the bartending job tonight

I can't think of anything that would inspire me to clean out a room like the prospect of moving a quilting frame in it. Ah, yes. That would be the finest motivation in the world. Go, Ann. Also, do you think anyone would notice if I put the guest room bed out for the trash man to carry away? Polly

The 6500 was replaced at least a year and a half ago with the 6600. I like the 6600 because of the "sewing" button which eliminates the foot feed. It is great!

Hi Ann,

That is fantastic news!! A new sewing machine is always a fun event and I have heard nothing but wonderful reviews on the 6500. I have heard several 6500 owners say they wouldn't trade up, they would just buy the 6600 to add to their sewing room. They love the 6500 that much.

Good choice, just wish I was in the area I would add a little to your tip cup at the bar!!! LOL

The salesman at the LQS gave me a real quick run down on the differences between the 6500 and 6600. Taking into account the price difference, none of the upgrades to the 6600 were a "must have" to make me go for the 6600 at regular price compared to the 6500 on sale at a great deal.

Thanks Taria. I will have to check out the yahoo group for the 6500 so thanks for letting me know there is one.

What decided me between the 6500 and the 6600 was a particular stitch that makes a chain of hearts. I use those hearts singly to tack quilts. The price difference was only $300 more for the 6600. I guess I paid $300 for the heart stitch. I took my Janome 4800 in for servicing and they had a 2 week wait due to so many machines in for service, so I just *had* to trade so I would have a sm to use! But I have noooo regrets. Both the 6500 and the 6600 are fantastic machines! Enjoy!!!

I spent several weeks on the group before I got my 6500. It was extremely helpful. Great information . . In message , Ann writes
