let's see... I text and drive, text and work, I text and ... everything! I practically text in my sleep! Pretty confident I could text and quilt... hmmm... project for this weekend I think... ;-) Michelle
Would you believe that I've never texted? Text messages cost a lot extra on my cell plan, so I've never learned how to do it. LOL!

I have never texted either. Don't have a VCR, or DVD, or plasma TV, or MP3 player, or iPod

Howdy!
This site has been offered free service for the holiday weekend, by several of the bigger phone companies.
We have a DVD - had it a year and still can't use it properly without a great deal of messing around (so I suspect 'we' aren't doing it right).
DS's comment when he knew DH had insisted on one with a hard drive etc for recording was 'Why on the earth didn't you just get a cheap playback one and up your Sky subscription to the easy recording one.
Too late then, but I have the feeling that eventually we will use that after the shiney DVD failed to record a couple of DH's progs. last week (he 'did' it wrong)!

There was a smiley at the end of the post...maybe it wasn't visible enough? Wow. Sorry I mentioned anything.
It's wonderful. Especially when you don't trust yourself to actually TALK to your kid. You can read that message 10 times to see how harsh it sounds.
It's also good when you want to just relay a message without getting into a whole, "how ya doing" routine.

At the end was pretty far away for me. I was already thinking like jeanne -- too many accidents with drivers texting, and doing other things. So no, the smiley at the end wasn't visible -- not sure I got that far.
I wouldn't text by cell phone even if it were free. I want to talk to a person and have a real conversation, not get hand cramps taking twice as long to exchange poorly spelled, even more poorly abbreviated, rudimentary IMs on a tiny cell phone numeric key pad.

I have no idea how to text. How does that little keyboard know if you want the first letter or the third that's on it? And how do you learn that shorthand the kids use? And..... big question for me...... why on earth not just wait until you can A. Call on the phone B. See the person in the flesh C. Write a letter
Old Fogey AKA Sunny
It's actually pretty simple to do. You press the number once for the first letter, twice for the second letter and so on. You only have to learn the shorthand kids use if you text kids. Because sometimes you only need to send a quick message and it's cheaper than a phone call.
