On Topic Rant - Sort of long

Wow Steve,

I must be end of the scale according to her definitions.

I use new and used material to make my quilts. I look for cotton sheets and pillowcases in our local opportunity shops and even have some saved for me by the workers.

I recently made a lovely quilt for a friend, who was diagnosed with cancer, entirely from secondhand material and it was beautiful (I think so) and so did my friends.

I am nowhere in the league of the quilters on RCTQ but I love it and get a great deal of enjoyment from making things for me and other people. I am still learning the basics.

Here is a link to the quilt I made for my friend,

the backing was a sheet to match one of the squares.

Simply put Steve, she's a snob, you're just fine. 'Nuff said.

Oh my god. Thank you for pointing out that she cleared up the question of whether I should continue quilting. I am going to sell all my sewing machines and by a bunch of guns. Then I will more closely fit her profile of what a "real man" should be doing. Or not! She is an ass, and I would keep my interaction with her to a minimum, if I were you.

No, Steve, she's the one who is most definitely missing the point! She's a snob, wants to let you know how much money she spends, etc., etc.

I think you are wonderful and exhibited stellar self control to not bite that woman's head off. Good for you for not playing her insulting game.

Enjoy your quilting (and your ribbons) and ignore her.

I particularly love Mark Lipinski and his gorgeously bolshi attitude. Steven HE is on YOUR side on this debate!

Enough said. You've wasted enough psychic energy on someone who isn't worth it. She may never understand what she is missing in quilting and the world. Move on to something/someone more worthwhile. Life is too short. Come quilt & eat chocolate with us!

In every walk of life you find people who KNOW the "One True Way". Your best option upon encountering such enourmous boobs is to run away very fast. They almost are never good to talk to, unless of course you also adhere to the same OTW they do. At best they are condenscending, at worst they are contemplating ethnic cleansing. I think everybody has snobby points that stick out here and there, but most of us at least try not to poke people with them.

I usually back my quilts with flannel, cause I do bed quilts and flannel is warmer. Of course I wouldn't dream of using commercially printed flannels. On my quilts I only use wide flanel backings that I have personally designed, dyed, and done any further surface ornamentation on myself by hand. 'cause I don't like piecing backings, I do like dyeing and painting, and I'm cheap. So much for snob appeal.

And if men aren't allowed to do traditionally female stuff then the reverse ought to apply, so what was she doing mouthing off to a man? What was she thinking taking a job in the first place? Teaching Home Ec is for spinsters and women who haven't married yet. She should have been at home carrying out carefully planned ways to pamper her husband, or knitting booties for anticipated munchkin number 8.

Steve,

Imo, your fellow teacher must feel really worthless and unimportant, with the need to find some really stupid pointless reason to feel superior to others. She's not worth your time worrying about it.

Steve, I think you do awesome work! Remember, it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round, she surely balances off those who admire your work and want you to teach. There is a group of quilters around here who think like she does, also. I'm not part of that group, nor am I welcome there. They told me so ;).

G> Okay everyone. =A0Fasten your seatbelts for this one.

If you are wrong, then so am I and a lot of others. I would forget her snobbish comments.

Gosh Steven, I'm not sure that I would have had your control! Nope I know I would not have! More than likely I'd have blasted into her no holds barred! I commend you for your self control!

Tell her from me to put her head somewhere the sun don't shine!

Keep going; she's just a pebble in your shoe; irksome while it's there, but not a thought spared once gone.

To make a long story short.. The way she reacted to you made her look like the ass she is ( pardon my French..).. the way you reacted to her made you look like the man you are! Nuff said! Well done Steve!

Yeppers -- print off Leslie's and/or Kate's replies or any of the other many great replies you will get and hand them to this woman and tell her to keep her uppity mouth shut in the future. Now going to go sit in the corner with Leslie and quilt a bit. LOL
