OT: After the storm

Thursday we were hit with a huge dump of snow, and then that night the winds came. Probably 60 mph, rushing down the little canyon beside our house. Trees crashed down all overtown. We were lucky. We lost some huge branches (think 30-foot lengths). But we were only without electricity for a few hours. Some folks here in town are still without power, but it's isolated. The kids got a day off school on Friday. My husband, our city newspaper editor, worked all night Thursday and then a heavy day Friday.

I feel like I've been "stormed" as well. My son's class at school t ook on a "Christmas Basket" family and hasn't come up with much money for them. It's a single mom with four young girls -- 5 months, 18 months, 5 years and 11 years. I just found out about this late last week and now I'm racing the clock (Deadline Monday) to make quilts for the two babies. I had hoped to make something for the bigger girls too, but I'm too slow and I don't have enough time or energy. This isn't the best of times for me right now physically. I have a slew of medical appointments after the first of the year.

Anyway, I could use some good quilting energy sent this way. I have one top ready to quilt and the other partly pieced. Easy designs made up from fabric I have on hand. Right now I'm glad I'm a fabric hog, buying up stuff I can't really see that I'll use when I find it at garage sales. As a r esult, I've got a bit of baby flannel and cute kid type fabrics on hand.

And our family decided to each put 25 percent of our individual Christmas money into the pot for the Christmas Basket family. I hurt for all the folks out there who are struggling to keep life together with a houseful of little ones, and especially at this time of year.

Hugs to all, and especially to my friends on the "Seattle-side" of the mountains.

I don't know about "quilting energy" but here comes my prayer that you will find all the energy you need, that all the physical challenges you mentioned are met with success and thankfulness that the world still has caring people like you.
