OT Computer help for Cranky Pants Polly

I thought it would be so neat to have high-speed internet stuff. I really was looking forward to being able to click on whatever you put in your posts that said 'go look at this' and actually be able to go there without dying of old age waiting. Well. Apparently it isn't that easy. No one around here can figure out how to find you all on a cableone.net connection. Of course, I can do Google but that's a pain in the neck. I am reading mail and news via Outlook Express and Earthlink (dial up). No surprise to you, I'm sure, but I don't even know what my question is. Something like 'Can I get to rctq from cableone?' Please, if you understand the question, try to guide a baffled Cranky Pants. Polly

Current status. We have newsgroups via cableone so I can go look at all the good stuff you show. Hot dog. I can still receive email as misterclean. I can not send email as Misterclean but who am I to get confused? Hooooooo boy, that was tricky. I'm afraid I have used up three tech helpers on site. Maybe, just maybe, we won't have to make any incomprehensible changes for a while. Thank you all so very much. Polly (unless they changed my name to n/a)

I'm so glad you have it all sorted out, Polly, but why can't you send email??? Earthlink, or whoever, should fix that for you, too -- I'd be

*so* frustrated if I couldn't send emails out!

I am slowly beginning to understand the change-over. I can receive email as misterc. Somehow the new cable setup understands that my friends don't know about the new address. I can send email using cable. What I can not do is click reply and send email. I have to go to a nice clean page and address the email from the cable. Or something like that. At least all systems are going now . . . and we are just so fast. Dangerous big fun. Polly

You can probably not use your old email address to send mail unless connected via their servers because of something most ISPs have started doing with blocking traffic through Port 25 to prevent spammers from sending email with their servers.

Isn't it wonderful, Polly?! We haven't had our speedy service very long - matter of a few months - and I still get a huge kick out of being able to look up the sites folks put in their posts without having to plan on being in all morning. I've also found that the incidence of 'cannot connect' etc is so much less. I do love my computer! . In message , Polly Esther writes

Me, too, Pat. It is going to make me very unhappy in a few years when I retire and can't afford the high-speed access any more. I do just love it! It's great to read a posting and then go look at all the fun pictures instantly. Sadly, I sometimes get sidetracked through the member's photos and website to go look at other things, and before I know it, my computer time is used up for that day!
