Quilting Suggestions

Nov 24, 2006 2 Replies

I am in the throes of completing a 64 point Mariner's Compass wall hanging for my son. The 'compass' is 24" diameter and is on a black background (with small gold stars) 32" square. In each corner is a small quarter star say about 4".

Now the question: I need some suggestions on the quilt design . I had thought the Mariner's compass should be quilted by 'in the ditch' (really the only option I guess) and my other thought is to quilt lines radiating from the point of the compass, likely in a yellow thread. Not very original, I know, but I think I must be careful not to make it overly complicated. I would appreciate your suggestions.

Much appreciate your suggestions.

I am tending towards stipple quilting the black background using black thread, stitch in the ditch for the compass with possibly an internal tracing of the star points. As is always the case (at least for me, when you are too close to a project my judgment isn't to be relied upon. I guess the most sensible thing is to put it away for a few weeks then revisit.

Anyway, thanks again. I'll let you know the outcome.

Can we have some photos please? This sounds gorgeous and I, for one, would LOVE to see it.
