New pics up!

Well, I finally have had my camera replaced and I wanted to share some updates on my webshots.

New ones include the Garden quilt and several other WIPS which have been finished, the lap quilt, Seminole quilt, and Star Circle quilt complete with a dink (but we'll keep him).

Next up, Pineapples and Pinwheels for the bedroom. If anyone wonders what the rest of the design will look like, I haven't a clue. A change in scale, I think. The rest I'll have to ponder.

All gorgeous - esp the QIs!!

Gotta ask - where did the pattern for the circle star come from. Is it yours? Can you point me to a pattern I can buy? It's just stunning.

Thanks Cheryl. Can't take any credit for the QI's :) but the Star Circle design is 'original', that is, all traditional blocks arranged by me. I used Storm at Sea and LeMoyne/Mini-Lone Star. I think most of the impact comes from the colorways and how that is arranged. I had some help from some people here on the ng to work that out as well as the border.

It was a long time in the making, but really not that complicated. It was one of my first projects and I was a little ambitious...I had to wait for my skills to catch up. So I worked on other projects in between. The majority of this one I ended up paper piecing just to have the accuracy and GET IT DONE! Probably took my time in the end because I have grown quite fond of it. I knew that once it's finished it's gone, gone, gone...

*sigh*

I am sort of new to this group. I have been reading it faithfully for about a month now. I am so impressed with all your quilts. I am a beginning quilter but have been sewing for about forever. I can tailor a blazer but quilting is all new to me. I am starting with the "Turning Twenty" quilt. It looked like a good piece for beginners. Kitty, I love the house and your quilting is just so beautiful. I hope I can come close to your skill level in a few years. Right now I am in need of encourgement. I did manage to get 4 squares sewn. It seemed strange to be sewing only straight lines. You know, I may get the hang of this yet!

Your work is just beautiful, Kitty. I have had a lovely time browsing through the pictures. A 32-point Mariner's Compass - wow! I've only done a 16- so far! The design board projects are amazing; but the actuality of the Star circle is wonderful. Have you any current pictures of little Gabriel? He truly is adorable. We have a very slow, dial-up connection ( for the foreseeable ...) and as I saw him 'emerge' from the top, I was just itching to see if there would be a little pink tongue peeping out - and there was!! Quite made my day. I love my cats, but I have been known to enjoy a cuddle with a little canine >g< . In message , KittyG writes

Hi Michelle,

How's this for encouragement? Anyone who can tailor a blazer can tailor a quilt! Okay, so the sewing lines may be straighter, but you're used to making accurate cuts and sewing accurate seams. That's a great start already.

Welcome to the world of quilting. Have fun discovering what you can do and learning new things as you go.

I'm gonna second that wow. Amazing. Did you design the Seminole quilt too? If so, (or even if not) where did you get the patterns for the different bands? I love some of those and they look perfect for working into a WIP I've had forever.

Sunny Oh, what kind of dog is Gabe?

I have to smile at this, Michele. You have me remembering how I felt when I first saw everyone else's work! If you can tailor a blazer I'm the one in awe. But anyway, some things that might help:

1st rule: Read everything you can. Some take classes. I tend to learn better on my own, but use a lot of people as my inspiration. 2nd rule: Use fabrics and colors you LIKE. Pick patterns you LIKE. Don't do what you think you should, even for practice. You have to spend too much time on it not to ENJOY. 3rd rule: Take a deep breath. Relax. You can do this. 4th rule: Stick to it. Anything you make turns out incredible. You'll surprise yourself! Promise.

And when you're showing it off, NO ONE WILL NOTICE YOUR MISTAKES! Incredibly, this is true. So this is not the time to be helpful.

Welcome!

Thank you Patti!

He quite makes my day too! That picture of him on the quilt was taken today :) They both grew so fast, I really need to take some more.

That Mariner's compass is a someday thing! I just love that type of design. Something to look forward to. For now, I'm amazed I had this much energy...too hot to sew!

Hi Sunny

Thanks! The Seminole is one of my favorites. It went together remarkably easily. I have a book on Seminole patchwork which I used as a reference, but I found the bands too wide for the type of quilt I wanted. It would have required large, long whole pieces of fabric and I really had quite a few scraps I wanted to use up. They tended to be the size of that center band of 9 patches on point, the only one from the book I did. I stopped worrying too much about following an actual pattern as I went along. I had a pretty good idea by this time of what was required and just tried to make sure that everything was balanced out in terms of colors and places where an actually design was used.

It was lots of fun and a great way to use up scraps. Finished is good!

Gabe is a Pekinese by the way. Cute little muffin, isn't he? He knows this, of course.

Thank you Estelle. I enjoyed looking at yours as well! The Starlight Expresso might be my favorite, although the houses and the sea quilt would be close! Nine patch with a twist would be from a book?

I like seeing what everyone else is doing as well. Thanks for sharing!

Don't forget the most important rule, there are no Quilt Police :) Make things you like, in the way you like, and have fun! Experiment, make mistakes, have fun (did I say that). I started in december and have been having a blast, hope you will too!
