OT: Dog Search

Hi Guys,

So, I am finally able to start looking for a female Lhasa or Shih Tzu to adopt!!! I spent about five hours on the computer yesterday looking at dog rescue sites in Lizard Land and the Southwest. We (DD & the SMDGD insist they must go along) will be meeting Large Marge this Saturday. She's b/w and 9 or 10 years old. A bit older that I prefer but I'll still go meet her. Large Marge can be seen at

ID #7396659 Next weekend -- 10 Sept -- I will be picking DH up at the airport and we will go to Tucson from there. I'm not sure if DD will go along but I bet "R" will jump at the chance. In Tucson, we will meet Lucille who is also a b/w female who is about 7 years old. Lucille can be seen at

ID #13427492 I have also been in contact with a Lhasa Apso rescue group that has chapters all over the country. The closest chapter is in the Ft. Collins area and they have at least one female who needs a "forever home". I spoke with DH about driving up there (more than 750 miles so a two day trip for me) to meet the doggie. He said that if I wanted to go, I could use his Delta FF Miles and fly up to Denver and rent a car. I haven't seen this dog yet so I am hoping that the foster mom will send me a photo as I asked.

One way or the other, I will be getting a doggie sometime within the next few weeks, I hope. Cassie (Old Lady Baby Cat who is 19 yr. old) will be royally pissed off when she finds out she has to share me and the house with another animal -- LOLOL! She probably won't talk to me for days!!!! So now I am saying prayers to St. Frank to help me find the doggie I need and who needs me. Wish me luck, OK?? CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Happy hunting on a new pooch Mary. There are so many pets displaced these days because of the foreclosures and job situation. I probably looked at hundreds of pound and rescue dogs years ago. It is worth the trouble to find the right pals though. Keep us updated. Good luck. Taria

I have heard from the Lhasa Rescue organization -- nearest chapter is in the Ft. Collins, CO area. VBS -- the woman sent me a photo of a girl doggie -- Akasa is her name -- who needs a "forever home". Just looking at her photo made me want to get in the car and leave *right now* to go bring her home!!! I will meet Marge & Lucille but I'm thinking that I will be making the trip to CO! DH has said that I could use his Delta FF miles to get to CO to meet this sweetie. Then, I reminded him that I will need a rental car and a hotel for at least one night and and, if she is "the one", I will need to buy an airline approved dog crate and pay to have her fly home with me! OY -- that will add up in not time at all. But if she's the doggie I should have, the $$ won't matter :-))). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Just curious- have you searched petfinder.com? You might be able to find a dog closer to home??? But a trip for a doggie is good, too! I do not travel, but isn't there something about a small dog traveling as a carry-on in certain circumstances... or am I totally out of date?

Best of luck in finding your perfect baby!

I've been on PetFinder.com almost every day for the last few weeks. That's how I found Large Marge and several other dogs I was interested in. The only problem with that site is that people do not update when a dog has been adopted so several of the dogs I was interested in were already adopted. If i wanted a male, I would have at least a dozen Lhasa's in Lizard Land to choose from. There are only three females AZ

-- one of them is in Tucson (Lucille, 7 y.o.), one is in Phoenix (Marge,

10 y.o.) and the other is in Prescott (14 y.o.)! As for taking a dog on the airplane, yes, you can do so but to carry one inside the cabin, the dog must fit underneath the seat. This means that it must be a VERY small dog. A decent sized Lhasa is about 15# and *could* fit under the seat but *not* once you put the animal into an approved carrier. Even if the dog did fit, there would be nowhere for me to put my feet. Taking a pet in the cabin now costs $125.00 and putting them in the hold is about $90. Add to this the fact that pets must be up to date on their shots AND have the proper vet. forms and it can be expensive to fly with a pet. If I use FF Miles, it will be a LOT less $$$ than driving to CO for two days, paying for min. three, maybe four nights at a hotel and then driving back! One way or the other, I will find the doggie I should have and you can bet I will let everyone know how the search progresses :-))) CiaoMeow >^;;^<
