OT: Fashion Fabric

Where do you folks who sew clothing go for fashion fabric? I need rayon, or something equally drapey but nto clingy. Is there a good online spot to shop for such stuff?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm not sure I'd want to buy something like that online unless that was the only possibility for me because I like to feel my fabric and have some idea of how it's going to drape, etc. I don't sew clothes much any more, but when I do, the fabric usually comes from either JoAnn's or Hancock Fabrics.

several times and have always been pleased. Buying rayon that's drapey but not clingy is certainly going to be tricky and rayon is not a good choice for the Swamp because of our always high humidity. A silk/cotton blend might be a better buy. Polly

I do sew clothing and I agree with Julia. I need to feel and see the drape of the fabric in person and hold it up to the light, walk outside the door and look at in REAL light, also scrunch it tight in my hand to see how badly, or goodly, it wrinkles and what kind of memory it has.

Synthetics have come a long way since the bullet proof polyester double knits. Rayon can be a high maintenance fabric, even the blends, most need to be dry cleaned. I heard that if rayon is pre-washed before sewing you will then have a washable garment......didn't work for me. The price difference between rayon and washable silk isn't all that great......I'd choose washable silk or a "washable" feels like silk synthetic. I still wouldn't buy it online unless I could get actual swatches sent to me before I ordered.

Wow, Sandy, thank you. I like to keep a supply of Nelona batiste. Your source is $10 per yard lower than mine. I am in your debt. Would you like a kitten? Polly

While you're there (Denver Fabrics) order some of the penny samples; for one little copper coin each you can have up to 5 pieces of "something diff'ernt".
