OT finishing the week on a high note

A couple of weeks ago I asked for help to get a magazine sent over to Oz and a kind rctq'er helped out. Well, look what arrived with the magazine today. Dovetail joins, a thimble stand, an embedded magnet to hold needles, a slot for scissors, another hole that just fits my threader nicely and it holds spools upright or horizontal.

Am I lucky or what?! Handcrafted by her DH and now taking pride of place on my sewing table. And it came wrapped in the loveliest piece of black-on-black fabric.

Thanked privately - but I just had to show and tell.

Then after lunch a local quilter who I hadn't seen for weeks came for coffee and a chat. She wanted me to track down some backing for a quilt she has just finished. I obliged, but was firm in my resolve not to buy fabric for me this whole month. I did not even look to see what I could have added to the order to fill the GP pack. But it was great to catch up with her again.

AND - late this afternoon my plumber finally showed up and connected my pump so I don't have to bucket water to my garden any more. (My builder also appeared this afternoon and promised yet again to finish the trellis "soon" lol - but I won't hold my breath for that to happen. I think his visit was related more to the fact that he was hungry and thirsty and in the general area - a combination of factors that usually leads to an impromptu visit.)

So my week is ending on a high. Hope everyone else has had a few good things in their week too.

Oh, that's perfect! I love it! Now it would be waaaaay too cheeky to beg for one of those, but I'm sure that my handy hubby hasn't enough to do and could easily use up a bit of the mahogany skirting he made my busk out of to make me one of those...

You did! No way could that little gem be hidden. :)

oooh, I understand the pain, bring on a fabric diet myself: no new fabric unless urgently needed for finishing a project from the stash!

Hehehehehe... Last autumn my builders always seemed to smell the kettle being filled!

I certainly did: visit to the cinema, sewing, eating James's birthday cake, AND I still lost 2.5 lbs! So if I sound a bit smug this week, that's why!

You're entitled.

Well done you.

Marvelous! And that is a great thread stand, I love it! Too bad he can't go into production and sell them.

Hope all your weeks end as well as this one.

Thank you. Officially 69.5 gone in total. I just want to get that last half pound... Then I'll have shed a whole THIRD of my starting weight!

How lovely, Cheryl! The week does seem to be ending on a high note for you. Now I'm off to watch the Today Show wedding. ;)

I was thinking of getting my DH to make one too, as soon as I showed him the picture. And oddly, we have a nice old rough sawn mahogany board that he would probably use for it. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Each year the Today Show sponsors a wedding -- gown, tuxes, bridesmaids' dresses, cake, reception, honeymoon, etc. -- that is held on-air. An engaged couple is selected from all applicant couples, and the viewers vote on each aspect of the wedding. This year's wedding was a bit strange, since the couples all had to compete in stupid contests to see who would finally be "the" couple. It's as close to a "reality" show as I will watch, but I do love weddings.

BTW, I've been browsing your photos again, Cheryl, and I see that you've made several of the same sort of golf-tee pin cushions as I made to take to my DT's little quilt group. Fun, aren't they?

Howdy!

*snicker* Cat talks about her high note weekender and shows a pic of that really cool gift and YOU GO SHOPPING!!! amidst her photos?!!?

Good one, Jennell. My kind'a pal. ;-D

Congrats, Cat! May the next week go as well.

--high note: I brought home a free bicycle yesterday, pretty crummy looking, broken headlamp, sap-encrusted frame & seat, flat tires, broken gears -- I got it from a junk pile on a street corner where it was stacked for trash pick-up; hey-- it was FREE!!! And it looks cute propped against the cedar elm in the front yard, being ridden by a scarecrow chasing down pumpkins ...and today I was coming down the narrow country lane beside our neighborhood and spotted a small, new bale of hay (about 2' long) lying in the road-- it came home w/ me, too -- I told y'all that Cruiser will hold just about anything! (had to remove one back seat to get the bike in there, put the seat in the way-back, shove in the bike, about 30 seconds to reinstall seat when I got home)

My DH got the look last night, you know the look from the computer to him and back again. Yes he got the hint and told me to save the photos and asked what size the reel of thread was. I know it won't be done tomorrow but it will be done.
