Frood/Wendy???

We just watched the morning news and saw that there's a HUGE chemical fire in Apex, NC- 16,000 have been evacuated from the city according to the report. Praying for all but especially Wendy and family. Hope they are out of harm's way and safe.

Ooooh! I hope so! We had one of those not too long back when a fuel storage depot went up . Very scary!

Wendy, report in when you can!

Yes, it looks pretty serious. The initial evacuation was HALF the population, with the toxic smoke still spreaking. Many prayers for Wendy and her family.

Wendy's house isn't far from the plant. Crossing my fingers for the whole gang.

That explains her silence, then. I'm sure she was moved to a safe place, and too quickly to leave a message. Incidentally, my husband tells me that if a corporation produces toxic waste, they own it from the cradle to the grave. In other words, from it's creation to it's destruction. So for all that toxic waste that is now burning and was not yet properly destroyed, there will be joint liability for the life and health of all the citizens of Apex.

I talked to my dad this morning - they live about 5 miles south of Apex. The plant was located just south of the town of Apex, with winds blowing north. EVERYONE in the town of Apex was ordered to evaculate, not doing so got people arrested for tresspassing (even in their own homes becuse it was a mandatory evacuation area). A high school that was not in the path of the fumes was set up as an evacuation center - all the high school kids were sent home so the school would be available. The firefighters couldn't even get to the area to fight the fire. Dad said that traffic was awful.

OMG!! I heard this on the news on the way to work this morning, and immediately thought of Wendy. Prayers for her and her family's saftey, as well as the rest of the town. My baby sis used to live in Apex, so I'm certain she still has friends there, too.

Hello all! We are home, and fine, no worse for the wear. We didn't wait for them to tell us to get out - we live just over a mile from the plant, and heard explosions. Since we didn't think we would be gone long, we left the dog behind. However, Friday morning they wouldn't let us back in for meds and animals. We stayed at a hotel, shopped for socks and things at a mall - it was like vacation!

We did have to buy some stuffies for Spike and Giles (and all the crew as well), because Kitty got left behind and Giles was very upset. Kitty is her special black stuffed cat she has had since she was 2.

We were allowed back home this morning, but we have friends that are even closer to the plant than we are and can't come back yet. Mungo was so happy to see me this morning! Poor guy - I'm sure he thought he was abandoned forever. The rodents are fine, and probably didnt even notice we were gone, although DS said he missed the "gerbily noises" last night. Mungo refused to eat unless I stood next to him, and wouldn't go outside unless I went, too.

The house is cold, as we had the heat turned off while we were gone (no air circulating at all), and smells kinda wierd, but all is ok now.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts during our Adventure!

Pets are not allowed in shelters, and are not allowed in most NC hotels, either, so we really didn't have a choice. When we came home, a rather intense search for Kitty was needed, as she was hiding behind the dresser under a pair of shorts.

yikes how horrid (and rather inhumane IMNSHO)

good thing you found kitty too!

Whew! Thank goodness you're all -- including Mungo and the rodents -- are all okay. And thanks so much for letting us know! I'm sure it's good to be home again. :)

I am SO glad to hear you are none the worse for your excitement. Fingers are crossed that the fall out isn't too horrendous. Ours from the Buncefield fuel storage depot was pretty scary:

Howdy!

Oh, good!

Glad you're all home, safe and..well...sound is relative, right?

Thanks for the call-back.

Cheers! Ragmop/Sandy--noting that we didn't even have time to round up a stash raid squad

I'm thinking Wendy should be awarded a prize for "Most Original Method of Deterring Stash Raiders". :)
