OT: Katrina victims

I just spent the day helping Louisiana people who have wandered into Texas.

Yesterday, I found out that there were 250 people living at the beach (only

5 minutes from my home). I was so worried about them because it is 98 degrees outside!!

I sent an email to everyone in all my church organizations for help. They came through like champions. The people on the beach have now been moved into shelters.

Today, I started the day serving breakfast at my local church. Then, we quickly divided clothing, umbrellas, shoes, etc. and spread them all over the hotels in the area.

I have spent the entire day in moments of tears. The victims of the hurricane are so grateful for everything, but the children just broke my heart. One child was given a Tommy the tank shirt and was so excited he threw it in the air then picked it up and hugged it to his chest. I just sobbed.

I had to convince one woman who has a 7 month old son to take a bouncer chair that was donated. She wanted to leave it for someone who could use it more!! I told her, "You need it. Please take it. If someone else needs one, we will find them one."

That is such a direct contrast to the looters.

I am going to a town meeting tomorrow to find out how I can give more help. It is just so sad.

Tricia (who is feeling very blessed because it could have been me)

It's the refugees who need the hugs....

So sad........

I heard all day... "We just brought a couple of days of change because we thought we could go home...."

I will continue to do everything I can and pass on the needed things I can't. I was identified today as "the person who knows or will know who knows"

I will do everything I can to make sure that happens!

My heart just breaks for these people.

You need the hugs too. I'm sure what you are seeing/doing is mentally/physically/emotionally draining. When you hear of long term needs, I hope you pass them on.

Tricia, it's people like you who keep American going strong! What a champion "you are" to all these people who helped. May God bless you and your church.

My husband has been on a sales trip in IN, IL, and MO all week and he says that along the interstates, even this far north, the people who took the hurricane warnings seriously have filled up the motels!
