OT - missing you

I have really missed you guys. I have had a couple of bad weeks of headaches and back pain. PT hasn't helped and I have been so loopy with pain pills the best I can do is sit on my desk chair with my feet up and fall asleep or wander to the sofa and fall asleep. I can't drive - I would wreck my new car. Heck, I can barely walk to the bathroom.

I am about ready to stop the **** pills and just try to deal with the pain with Tylenol. I will probably not get any better then it is now, and I can't live the rest of my life as a zombie.

So, I'm coming back!

Sorry you've been continuing to have such a rough time of it. I've missed reading your messages. Hope you get it all straightened out soon and are feeling so much better!

I don't think there is anything worse than back pain! But you're right -- if the meds make you feel as if you are living the life of the "living dead" -- you really have to decide if the meds are worth it after all.

Prayers that you can find a way to manage your pain... and be awake and alert at the same time!

Welcome back!

Well, here's something completely off the wall, sounds goofy, and maybe is just a form of self-hypnosis. But AFAIK it is completely harmless, so give it a try if you feel inclined. Complete info at

Here's the short version:

  1. Sit, stand or lie down so your body is as balanced as possible. You might want to drink a glass of water before you start.
  2. Using as many fingers as feels comfortable, tap with your right hand on the edge of your left hand (the karate chop zone) and say aloud, "Even though my back hurts (mention specific location), I deeply and completely accept myself. Repeat 3-4 times. If you are left-handed, tap with the left hand on the right.
  3. Now tap the 8 basic pressure points in order, tapping about 10 times in each spot (or as much as feels comfortable). Use both hands for the "symmetrical" points, one hand on the "single" points. As you start a new spot, repeat a short version of the problem (e.g. lower back pain):

-inner ends of the eyebrows

-outer ends of the eyebrows

-under the eyes, at the rim of the eye sockets

-between upper lip and nose (single point)

-between lower lip and chin (single point)

- upper chest on each side, right under the middle of the collar bones

-under arms on each side, about at the bra line

-top of head (single point, pat instead of tap) Repeat the tapping sequence 2-3 times, taking a deep breath after each sequence. I've been using it for the past week to cut back on calories, and I've lost about 1.5 pounds. Roberta in D

Naomi, don't stop the pain meds. all at once. You might just throw your system all bonkers. Ease back on the dose, and take things slow over a period of time. Find the minimal dose that will allow you to tolerate the pain. Sounds like you can't tolerate a dose that will remove the pain. Naturally if you are unconscious you're not going to feel much! Once you reach a minimal dose, try Tylenol instead for every other dose - alternating them - making sure the two are allowed to be taken together. Ask the doc about all this and see if it's a good approach for you. But don't just suddenly stop the meds. It's very likely to backfire on you in very unpleasant ways.

I have heard of that. I will give it a try and see if it works. Why not. Doesn't hurt anything, right?

So sorry you are having such issues. I hate it when the meds. are worse than what they are treating. So good to see you post again. Prayers that things get better for you.

AHHH!

I can't help it!

emofree.com sounds like the site you go to if your friend has turned into a drama queen, has their bangs hanging in their face, and constantly listens to My Chemical Romance.

I agree, the site is off-putting. Our club had an expert in to demonstrate and talk about it, so we heard the expurgated version before going to the site. Roberta in D
