Howdy!

YUM!!!

Interesting...is that a snake hole in the door of the garden shed? Or did the former owners have ferrets?

Lovely, just lovely, M.

Snakes! Heaven forbid!

I'm presuming it was for cats... I know my kitties would love a shelter to get into when it's cold!

Wow. Next summer if I have a kid that goes to Penhold for three or six weeks, I would be right close enough for a stash raid.... or a couple stash raids on my visit to her!

I sure hope all goes well for you on this place. It is awesome!

let me know if you are coming this way. A meet up would be great fun. Even I'm not sure where my stash will be, you may have to help me find it

Educate me about the beautiful wood log details inside the house. I've never seen anything like them and want to know more. I do dearly love the look and feel of wood. Polly

Hi Polly I'm assuming that the logs used for the house are Spruce trees. (that is what is most common in our area) The logs are peeled, dried and have a finish applied. The large bulges on the logs are called burls. They often form on a tree where there has been some damage to the tree as it grows. Small ones up to basketball size are very common. Super large ones like the ones in the house, are more rare, but still with the amount of trees we have up here, there are lots. The logs are notched to fit together with other logs or to fit with traditional lumber. I have always drooled over full log homes. They can be truly gorgeous! This one has a wonderful blend of log accents and traditional walls, so I get the best of both. I too, love the look and feel of wood. It does take some upkeep tho. The wood trim on the outside of the house all needs to be refinished. The burls also tend to collect dust, which means I have more dusting to do. Then, my oak living room furniture doesn't quite go with the logs....unfortunately, it will be awhile before I can afford new furniture. The original owner of the house builds log homes. Much of the furniture they had was built by him, with logs used where traditional furniture would have straight pieces of wood. The kitchen table was built with small (maybe 6" diameter)log legs, the visible frame that the table top sat on was smaller logs, and the top was done with 6 inch square dark green ceramic tiles. The chairs had log legs and backs and solid wood seats. I tried to buy that too, but the wife wouldn't sell it! I do believe that the logs will go very well with the quilts that I love. I'm into traditional, scrappy, country colors. Can you tell I'm excited!
