I've always thought that people make too much of decorating a baby's room, too stimulating. When my son was born, I didn't do anything special to his room besides a cozy bed with a few critters. He had black out curtains too. He slept through the night very early on and late into the morning, and his naps were at least 3 hours each afternoon until he started first grade. He was an only child and I never left him in his bedroom to play. The play room with all of the fun and stimulating items was downstairs where I could supervise. When he went to his room, he knew it was to sleep., there were no toys up there. He never had any "going to bed" issues, ever.
When he was around 6, he was moved to a new, larger room, and was in charge of choosing all of the fun stuff to go into his big boy playroom/bedroom.
Black out curtains are great.
