Sunday afternoon

A great one! It's my birthday, so I'm letting myself play on my computer and catch up with all my emails and newsgroups. Although I do feel sick as I've just had 4 pieces of cake *feeling slightly queasy*

There are another 4 pieces of Devils chocolate cake left, but I think I'll send them off to work with Stu tomorrow.

I had a busy day. This morning, I preached both the children's story and the adult sermon. This afternoon, I had rehearsal. Now Kandace is at swim team, and after I pick her up, I have marking to do. It is going to be so nice to have some free time - no rehearsals - after Christmas!

Hiya Nora,

I am in east central Mississippi and it is 75 here, windy, and sunny. We really need rain here, haven't had any in about a month and with all the Katrina downed trees and limbs still out there it's creating a fire danger. We have our yard looking pretty good right now and if only the grass would stop growing it would be great although I'll miss the green.

It was rainy and gloomy here today too, Nora! Matthew mowed the lawn on Friday too when it was really nice here.

I didn't do much of anything today.... a bit of internet early this morning, then watched a bit of TV while a late lunch was cooking... then I went to the cemetery, today is 12 years since Daddy passed away. I really miss him a lot more than usual lately. :o(

Happy birthday, Sarah. Hope your tummy settles down. (p.s., what I do when we have cake is I put it in the freezer after dh and I have had a piece each. That way makes it just a little harder to go back for seconds.)

I had a great Sunday. My sister visited for the weekend. Her kids played with my kids and they all had a great time. And I taught her to knit! She had a circular bag that was crocheted with eyelash yarn, and she wanted to make another just like it. So we went to the store and she chose some lovely yarn, but when we tried to crochet with it, it was impossible. So I cast her on 20 stitches and showed her how to knit a garter stitch scarf.

It was hilarious! After 4 rows she had gained 8 stitches. Because of the fluffy yarn it was impossible to see where she had gained them, or to frog it and correct the error. But then again you couldn't see the mistakes in the scarf either so I left them in and just reduced her back to 20 stitches again and let her try some more. Well we went on like this, every few rows she would have gained badly (or sometimes lost!) and I would get her back to normal and she'd knit some more.

I was worried that it was just the wrong yarn for a beginner. But then again she was having fun and she also kept admiring the way the scarf was turning out - she'd never seen eyelash yarn before and she was just bowled over with the effect. So I figured if she was motivated she'd keep at it, it was more important that she enjoyed the process and loved the end result, not so important that she master perfect technique using yarn she didn't care for.

So she's taken about 9 inches of scarf home (and my 6mm aluminium needles!) and she promises she'll finish it. We had a wonderful time knitting together and laughing and drinking wine. She went back about 2 hours ago and I miss her very much already.

But frozen cake is delicious! Right out of the freezer! YUM!

I bet it was fun teaching her to knit especially with that kind of yarn. I know what you mean by crocheting with it, just as bad as a boucle that I've been trying to use.

Yes, welcome to the group and boy do I wish I could send the rain down to you. We have had about three inches since last night and they say for the first time in months we are about six inches above normal. I'm hoping that means less snow this winter, but I won't count on it. LOL

WHEW took me half a day tomrealize it was Finnaly a real Sunday , no holiday no unbetween just plain regular Sunday , i decided to wash the floor of my work room ,, and pushed the looom around ,, found some pins and beads on the floor ,,, good , had a guest who came at 10.00 [yeeks] and wanted to see my art , after each work she ohhed ands ahhed and i just knew she had no feeling for it all ,,,,, Tomorow i restart my vulonter translating day at the Museum, this will give order to my month.... finnishe a sleeve on my sweter , and have a bit of body ,,,,, tried a finnish on Son`s vest , but didn`t like it thus ripped it ,,, i thnk i will now wash the floor of 2 more rooms and than go back to weaving ,,,, what a day , rain started and there less pressure on my head ,,, mirjam
