Another happy Sunday

Hello everyone - this time I am late - it is 8 pm Sunday here.

I had a great day and actually finished something . I finally finished the lacy jumper for the lady in Perth and have even put it all together - with a pattern such as this ,which is in lacy panels - I find my method of stitching together from the right side fabulous as it is imperative that the panels match at the shoulders.

To do this I got up early and Frank had breakfast ready for me and then I had " the morning coffee" at morning tea time ( this is traditionally at 10 am) with some fruit filled biscuits( cookies) made from the pie crust recipe - never mind the calories - it is Sunday and I was very busy ( a good excuse anyway).

Also it was a lovely day and while working I watched the 1000 k touring car road race over Panorama Mountain on Tv followed by the cricket - Australia versus the World. Hope you all had a good day too love and God Bless gwen

Good morning Gwen, I was on here earlier but no one was around much, so came back after cleaning up and doing a couple of picks of a rug on the floor loom upstairs. The sun is shining today..good job as we've had a few days of thick cloud and mist making the nights seem darker than ever.

You have done well getting your sweater done. Don't know if you have ever tried this Gwen, but when I sew up lacy sweaters, or any sweaters from now on, I pin the seam together with....Hair Roller Pins...you can buy these in all sorts of colours including white, being plastic they don't pierce your fingers or split the yarn. The bonus is that you can see them easily and to help out even more I have a set of lemon ones, that I keep by for sewing up black knitting or crocheted items. With sewing up on the right side, because of a pattern match I pin it on the right side, matching up the patt...then I do another line of pins another inch and a half down, release the first line of pins, and turn in the raw edge and repin, remove the second row of pins turn the thing to the wrong side, and you'll find it is now pinned exactly in position with the wrong sides to the outside.. hth

Cheers...Cher

Hi

It is a lovely sunny Sunday, I have been doing some laundry and cleaning the cooker prior to Sunday Lunch which is almost ready. My current project is a baby blanket in silk/wool handspun from a craft fair, which has been in the stash for a couple of years. My sister in law is expecting a baby in December, so I'd better get a move on. It's in a simple filet pattern of squares, so it doesn't take too much concentration, and I love the way it is working out so far.

This afternoon, I hope we'll make the most of the sunshine and go to one of the local parks for a while.

Gwen, those biscuits sound good! Great idea with the hair roller pins, Cher, I will have to try this!

Hoping everyone is having a good day!

Best wishes

Liz

Good Sunday morning to everyone. I am just finishing off Jesika's pumpkin hat, which I have to put in the mail on Tuesday. This is actually the fourth one I have done this week. I did one for her and Kaegan, after a phone call which alerted me to the fact that Kaegan's old one was too small for him, and too big for her. However, Kandace and Liam claimed the first pair. Luckily, they knit up quickly, so I will still have these done in lots of time. The post office is closed here on Monday, so I couldn't have gotten them out any sooner anyhow. FOr those who are wondering, my ,ong-delayed squares should go in the mail on Teusday as well. They have been sitting here, just waiting for me to post them. This has been an incredibly busy fall! I hope to be able to join November's exchange free and clear - by this I mean that everyone should have received their squares in lots of time for me to sign up with a clear conscience.

Good morning all -- as it is still morning here (7:50 am). I am finally getting my sleeping hours straightened around after getting back from France. I have been helping a neighbor who is running for city council and so haven't had as much time as usual for knitting. I do have two active works in progress in addition to my NYCO which needs to be sewn up. One is a lacey scarf in a dusky pink silk/mohair mix and the other is a child's jacket of that unspun 6-ply Canadian yarn similar to what Cowichan sweaters (white buffalo). My sister wants a small felted purse for Christmas, so I have to get going on it soon.

Good morning everyone,

Well, it's not a sunny day here in upstate NY. It's cold, only 46F and we had about three and a half inches of rain yesterday and more expected today. Not a nice holiday weekend for folks to go leaf peaking since the trees haven't really started to turn yet.

I finished afghan no. 41 yesterday and one of ours made from the 6x6 exchange squares and started two more 'N" hook one piece afghans.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Hugs,

Nora

Sounds like a wonderful Sunday, Gwen! :o)

It is sunny and bright here in Southwestern Ontario, with bright blue skies above, the maple tree across the parking lot beside the computer room window is turning red, and the purple morning glories are still blooming along the chain-link fence outside the same window. The air is quite cool now (I felt it as I let the dogs out into the back yard earlier), but because the sun is so bright, it doesn't seem so bad.

Matthew drained some of the water out of the swimming pool yesterday and shut off the pump for the winter... too cold for swimming now, although I have to admit that I did go in one last time last Monday when it was summer-like weather, but I didn't stay in too long as my hands were hurting from the cold water (didn't bother the rest of my body, just my hands). In any case, I won't be venturing in the pool anymore until next year. ;o) Matthew does have to go out and dip more water (with a bucket) out of the pool today though... it is supposed to be drained down a few inches below the filters so when it rains and/or freezes it won't go up into the hoses again.

I had a good day yesterday (and again today so far.... shhhh) so last night I started going through some more bags and boxes. I plan on doing more of that today too. Once I get the computer/diningroom sorted out, and the table totally cleared off I am going to bring (or have Matthew bring if they are too heavy for me to move) the papers that I have bagged up in the livingroom to the table and I can sit and sort them at a good level so as not to hurt my back by bending too much.

(At some point over the next three weeks, Matthew and I will be decorating for Halloween. He does the outside stuff, and I help with the inside stuff and I do his costume and/or makeup.

Once Halloween is over the decorations will come down and it will be close to time to start planning for Christmas decorating outside as the Santa Claus Parade goes by our house in mid November, and the school across the street also have their Christmas Show that they put on.)

The next plan (which won't be happening today... but as the weeks go by) is to get Matthew to bring me 3 bags / boxes per day from upstairs that I can sort through to see what is being kept, what is being tossed, and what we can give to St Vincent de Paul.

After the upstairs is cleared out we can start storing things up there in an orderly fashion instead of the mess the boys left it in when we moved in here with everything piled on top of everything else. Is there any wonder that I haven't found a lot of things yet? Also there will be more room that way, and when we start working on clearing out the rec-room 3 bags / boxes per day we can put the things being kept upstairs in a neat and orderly fashion so everything is easy to find when we're ready to move them to the proper room. They packed stuff down in the rec-room in the same messy way, on top of each other. I seriously dread finding a couple of things that are breakable, which I *had* kept to one side so they would be brought here last and unpacked first, but that didn't work.

In any case, today... looks beautiful and I am feeling pretty good, so I hope to get some things accomplished. While working last night, I took frequent breaks on the sofa to rest my back, and I will likely do it the same way today.

Peace! Gemini

Gwen, sounds like you had a very good working day.....LOL Neat when husbands cook the breakfast. I love it after so many years making it for everyone and than dashing out of the house myself.

Here it is overcast with a promise of rain. I hope to go out and do some more cleaning of my flower beds. We had a problem with a wasp nest, and after we douced it with boiling water a couple of times, we finally have that under controle. Yesterday I worked on getting rid of a large clump of oregano. It even invaded the paths. With my first world war trench digger, I bought in a recycle army store in Toronto years ago, I hacked the thick matt of oregano out. Three wheel barrows later, It looks much better. If the rain hold off I will go out and finish that job. Have a great Sunday and enjoy all that Turkey with cranberry sauce.

We have elections on November 8. Mostly this year it is for local government offices. We will be electing members of our local school board, city council and utility board this year along with some county officials. There are also some issues on the ballot on various subjects. We tend to have some sort of election every year on the Tuesday that follows the first Monday in November. Some of them are just more noteworthy than others. Next Sunday our local AAUW and League of Women Voters will have a candidates forum in the local library so that we can hear all of the candidates and ask questions.

Ummm, I like the idea of those coloured pins ,Cher, for all sorts of things with knitting and crochet. I do not pin the jumpers though as the way of stitching them up takes two stitches, or rows, from each piece to be joined and that way they have to match and cannot get out of kilter.

Glad your weather in improving - we had been promised a very hot day of 30 c but fortunately it only got to 27. God Bless Gwen

Liz, you're in the UK aren't you? A question for you.... I know when you speak of the "cooker", it's the same as a "stove/oven" over here in Canada. Is your cooker an AGA by any chance? I've seen pictures of them and read up on them and am curious what they're like to cook with. I've also seen pictures of the other one (can't remember the name) that can also be used to heat your house. I'm fascinated by the idea that they are "on" all the time. I just can't imagine having one in my kitchen here in Manitoba. It would be way too hot in the summer time. Yet, my ex and his second wife installed one in their house, but I never got to see it or ask questions about it. I've also heard they're VERY expensive to buy.
