I need to plumb the depths of RCTQ knowledge once again. Do any of you take your camcorder videos and put them on DVD's with your computer? I need advice about a good software set-up to do that with, from someone who has experience with one. Actually, I want to capture VHS videos and put them on DVD for ease of use and preservation. Any recommendations, other than "No, no, don't go there!" LOL

I have been using Sonic My DVD. It is not the latest version, but it came with my computer and it serves my purposes. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but does have some.

I bought an HP Movie Writer (in the low $100 range) and it came with software (Showbiz) for this purpose. You can add music, titles, chapters, transition effects, etc. I put about 20 years worth of home movies (from Regular 8 to Super 8) onto DVDs. Of course, I first had to get them from movies to the camcorder, so I actually showed the movies from the projector onto a movie screen, as small as I could get so that I'd have the sharpest, clearest picture possible, and recorded that with my camcorder. It worked amazingly well. Then I went through the camcorder to the movie writer, which is hooked up to my computer. I pretty much filled about 5 DVDs!

If you don't want to edit it -- just "copy" it from VHS to DVD -- you can do that through your TIVO too... if you have one!
