OT: Sort of.... chat wish

I wish there was a chat room attached here to our newsgroup. I know we can find each other out there in various IM worlds, but I don't necessarily want to be out there on Yahoo or MSN, I just want to be able to pop into this "world" and see if anybody is around for a chat. How fun would that be!?! Is that possible? Can we have our own chat room, or would it deteriorate because there would be no monitors to kick out the trolls?

I'm asking these questions out of true lack of knowledge. I suspect there's a reason why we don't have a chat, but I don't know what it is.

Anyway, I'm hyper tonight and really wish I could rustle up somebody to talk to about quilty stuff.

Hi Sunny I know what you mean. There have been times that I'm awake at odd hours and would just like someone to chat with. Don't know anything about setting up chat rooms tho. I remember that the ones I've tried in the past, the messages come in too fast for me to keep up. By the time I've formulated what I want to say, get it typed and press send, it seems that the topic has changed and I've missed everything in between. Can't chat tonight, as for a change I'm exhausted and sleepy. Was just doing a last minute email check while I waited for my DD (dear dog) to come in from his last outing of the evening.

Hope you manage to turn off and get some sleep tonight :)

You could meet other quilters too in Quiltchat. I think it has been around for 8 or so years

I haven't yet tried this.... but it's been around for a long time. There is also a chat associated with Ricky Tims "The Quilt Show" You have to register as a member and I don't remember if you have to be a paying member to use the chat room. Someone else might want to check that. I can get in, but I bought a membership quite a while ago and I see it's good until December 2008. If anyone else is a member, we should find one of the chat rooms there to check out periodically. There are about 22 different rooms and there is rarely anyone in any of them. We could take over one just for RCTQ!

huh? That's interesting. You must have really riled them up Jeanne. I've never quite gotten their sign in figured out....but I also haven't tried. A quick read through and then I'm off to other things. I want to be able to click a button that says "chat" and be done.

It was like she said: "Did not like her last name!"

Like they haven't even met her, have NO IDEA what she's like--just simply went by her last name! I could see them with my maiden name--spelled one way and pronounced another.

Ms B is one of the RCTQ'rs that have met me. stayed with them better part of a week before i flew back to Canada over nearly 3yrs ago now. i think i was an ok houseguest, cleaned up after myself, helped with dishes and whatever i could while there. Ms B and her 'boys', lol, were ever so kind, warm and welcoming. that was in Fresno, California, now they've moved on to AZ and into their new home. i didnt get to see them when i went thru Phx, Az in late

2006. maybe another trip if i can gather up enough energy. that last trip just took the wind out of my sails. sigh... hugz to Ms B and her 'boys', jeanne

Hey, your not the only one they done like. I have heard from a couple of quilters that they are really clickish. I tried it out after I moved and didn't have anyone to talk quilts about and when one of the gals decided she didn't like me then no one would talk to me. Now I hear from my a gal that works at a sewing machine shop they are really snotty to her too. It is amazing how women can treat each other when you have one Quiltzilla and others that follow.

I, too, with we had a chat room, maybe if we all started looking we could find one and start meeting there.

Just an idea,

download MIRC...easy peasy...and quiltchat is easy to click to. The person who started the room has retired and they still do have monitors but not all the time apparently. As I understand it , there used to be a quilt guild at that site but not now. Chatters from UK, AU and US & Canada mostly. I used to chat in Fabric-Stash but that has quieted down immensely . There were at one time , quilters there from So.Africa, DAve from BEirut ! , Germany, UK, AU, Spain, Norway, Japan...etc..lots of fun then. I think a lot of people don't chat because it really can be slightly addicting...!..

Oh yeah....I remember Fabric Stash. A good friend of mine used to chat there a lot. Wasn't that where Philippa Naylor chatted when she lived in Saudi Arabia?

Her quilts are wonderful, by the way....I started internetting with AOL and there was a really nice chat room with quilters there. I did a swap with a bunch of them. There never seemed to be any animosity ever. I guess I'll stay away from Quilt chat....they probably wouldn't like my last name either...or maybe my first name for that matter! Has anyone checked

to see if the chat rooms there are for the free members? That would be an ideal place if there isn't any charge. There are so many empty chat rooms there that we could just agree to meet in a certain one and make it "our" place to meet up.

I had to log in first to get to the chat rooms on The Quiltshow.

But did you have to pay anything? If all we had to do was sign up and log in....that would be a great place to have RCTQ chats.

Ok...just checked. All you have to do is "join" with the free membership to have access to the chat room. I can verify that you won't get a lot of spam if you do join. This is an intersting and informative website. I think our RCTQ members should join and then use their chat rooms. I know, I'm repeating myself.

Join here. I like the blog entries. I purchased a membership to see the first sets of videos. I'm not sure if I will join for the second or third series. Still debating.
