OT: sort of, sewing.

My wife just got back, today from a conference at one of her "Girly Groups", and recounted the speech of one of the officers that was addressing the people there. The woman, during the course of her address, said that she was a woman of the cloth. She then clarified that by stating that she was a Quilter. I laughed at that, and though I would pass it along for everybody here. Some of you may have heard such before, but I had not.

I came across another joke like that today in a 19th century book, Dean Ramsay's "Reminiscences of Scottish Life and Character". A minister met a piper one day (throughout history neither has tended to be very impressed by the other) and seeing he looked nearly down and out said "wind isn't earning you very much, is it?" - the piper said "no, you're doing a lot better out of it than I am".

Well, I've used "sisters of the cloth" when describing my quilty friends to others who are not in the crafty/creative life. People usually smile.

Did your wife have a good time at the conference?

Actually Not. The food was horrible, The sessions were long and boring and the accommodations were terrible. Other than that, I think she liked it. She was with friends so that makes up for a lot. Kind of like the question," Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, How did you like the Play"?

Yep, I think the redoubtable Ms Ragmop introduced that phrase here a while back. Doesn't matter who or when, it always makes me smile!
