OT: Still More Furniture Pics

These are some of the last pics that I will publish. They are of lots of little things I have made. One series is a result of a combined effort with Lois, my wife. They are Cork Trivets made out of real wine corks and framed in various woods. She came up with the idea and I helped her to set up an assembly area in my work shop where she cuts and glues the cork halves to a base of 3/8" plywood. Then I make the frames out of various woods and varnish the frame and glue green felt to the back. She makes them for gifts to friends and for prizes at the raffles that are fundraisers for the various groups she belongs to. The other cork boards are much larger but done with the same assembly process. The other things are a Cell Phone station in the kitchen and Waste baskets and a Kleenex box cover, made out of California redwood. I have made a bunch of these last things for different areas in the house. They cover up the boxs and blend into the surroundings. Somebody gave us a needlepoint cover which gave me the idea to do some in wood.

A couple of the other things are a bookcase built-in for Cookbooks in the kitchen and an Expresso station and spice rack, both make out of oak.

The last thing is a Media Storage cabinet which houses C/D's, Video tapes and such. The frame and shelves are made out of Maple and the door panels are made out of cypress. Hand painted porcelain knobs.

I used to help in that regard, but about 15 years ago I decided that my Irish heritage was catching up with me, so I quit entirely. She does have a glass with dinner, but the majority comes from a network of folks who collect them for us. She is known in come circles and the wine cork lady. Better than being know as the wine drinking lady, who isn't a lady.

John, those are wonderful! One of my DDs also made cork trivets (she put them into picture frames), but she used whole corks; the split ones would go twice as far. :)

A moble phone charging centre! Now there's a marketable item.........our phones seem to wander about the house looking for a spare outlet and the charging cables get tossed into a drawer.........to have it all in one spot would be wonderful. Your woodwork is beautifully finished, John.......obviously a perfectionist. "If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well" as my Dad use to say, also a woodworker.

I saw that idea for a cell phone station in our local newspaper in a "handyman" section of a sunday edition. We had just purchased the cell phones and the chargers and cases were laying all over the place and I hate clutter. So I designed that one to fit our needs. The charging units are located behind the center blank space and plug into a duplex wall plug that is covered by the whole wooden piece. The ends that plug into the phones are peeking out from the top rear of the station, and the cable extends as far out as is needed to reach the phone. There is a shelf that holds the manual and a drawer to hold a belt case and a belt swivel attachment for the leather case my wife uses for her phone when she doesn't want to carry it in her purse. You could just multiply the size if you had a whole family of phones. You probably could get by with just 2 charging wires. I love organization and this fills the bill to a "T".
