OT Update

Working on things around here. Got more bags of garbage than I know what to do with! On the good side though, I really needed to clean out my basement of clutter and junk anyway and this is as good of a motivator as anything! The smell is hanging on though, I hate that wet dog/mildew/dirt smell that comes with a flood. It takes SO long to get rid of. Oh and did I mention that now that we had this mess, we are going to just re-do the downstairs bathroom because it was not in great shape before the flood so why not make MORE work for ones' self and just rip the sucker out too? LOL

Oh I have to LOL or I would be crying! The weather isn't really helping either. We get 2 days of rain, then a day of gale force winds that carry off small children and animals. Interesting weather to say the least.

Oh but on the quilty side of things..... I fondled fabric for a while today and sorted out some of the mess in my sewing room. It was relaxing!

Keep your spirits up! Sometimes a flood can be a blessing in disguise. DH and & have a totally different outlook on the value of "stuff", after cleaning up our whole house that was flooded knee deep after Hurricane Opal, many years ago. Yes - clean-up seems never ending, but life returns to normal before you know it! We were fortunate that we were renting the house, so didn't have to repair it, but we had to clean up, then move to a dry house, then repair/replace tons of items, dealing with insurance in Ottawa ON from Panama City FL. Had 3 file folders at least 12" thick by the time the file was closed! Life does go on.......

Call the Red Cross. They have a booklet explaining how to recover from a flood. Great tips on cleaning, disinfecting, etc.

Good for you -- LOL as much as you can. It has to be heartbreaking having to do this sort of thing. On the bright side, perhaps letting the wind carry off small children could entertain them for a time? ;)

Panama City, FL?! That's where I AM!! Are you still here????

I think I see a meet-up ... if you are still here, do you belong to the St Andrews guild? I'm going to my first ever meeting there this month!! :)

(hoping that you ARE still in PC!!) :)

Try to get rid of the smell with Ozium, you can get it online at

they use it also in hospitals. We used it when there was a fire and it got all the smoke smell out. Our daughter's son tossed his lunch and nothing is worse than sour milk smell in a car. Yuck. It is worth a try?? Jeanbaby

Sorry about you troubles.

I hope some of the rain comes my way so you can dry out and I won't be living in a parched desert. It's so dry here the dandelions are drying up and dying. Let's not discuss the actual grass. Too depressing. It's pretty bad when even the weeds die. Debra in VA See my quilts at

That lame joke sure gave me a giggle.

Be afraid, for I have a copy of the directory and might put the idea into use. LOL Debra in VA See my quilts at

Sorry Connie - as Canadians we had to move back home after our 5 year tour was done at Tyndall AFB. We do spend the winters in Florida, but in Zephyrhills, between Tampa & Orlando, north of Lakeland. We went to PC on a visit a couple of years ago - the quilt shop is great. DH was glad it wasn't there when we lived in the area, or we would have gone bankrupt!

Well ... crud (for me, obviously, not for you - home IS where the heart is!). While I DO wish you were still here, I'm glad you're where you're happy ... :)

Is/was your hubby (or you) in the US armed forces? Or were ya'll part of a detachment (can never remember the official term) of the Canadian AF?

Did you like it here? Hubby keeps talking about retiring here (not military - civilian gov working for Coastal Systems Station - now NSWC-PC) and I keep thinking there's probably a nicer area in FL ...

Never been to Zephyrhills ... been to Orlando a few times ... Tampa, too. Very nice area ... hubby's actually been thinking about just going to SOCOMM (Tampa) and seeing if the family likes it better. But thinkin's easier than doin', obviously! What's Zephyrhills like??

Next time you DO come to PC on a visit (yes, that's an invite!), we can hit the quilt shop! And I'll promise to research every quilt shop in a

100 mile radius, too! :)

I disagree with that statement about the worse smell in a car ... when we moved to FL (from MD) a few years back, we convoyed - me and the kids in our mini-van and the hubby is his car ... we drove for about 3 days (spending the nights at a motel, of course). And at the end, my van smelled like old, filthy gym socks, unwashed feet, and sweat!!

Had to Febreze the hell out of that van - and even then, the smell still lingered for MONTHS!! Erk. :)

Glad to hear you are starting to get a sense of humor about it. Hang in there! Continued hugs and prayers to you.

DH was in the Canadian AF, stationed at Tyndall on a NORAD posting. There were about 35 Canadians there at the time, but the numbers are shrinking due to changes in the system. We enjoyed living in PC, but after the hurricane, I would not like to live in a coastal area again, even with views of the ocean. Zephyrhills was a small country town when we first viewed it over 15 years ago. Tampa is slowly creeping northeast, and there are lots of housing developments closer to I-75. The town is growing, with more and more stores and services, and there is lots of medical services in the area as well. We enjoy the weather in Central FL. It doesn't get as cold during the winter months, but the summers are about the same. From our place, we can be at Disney World in 55 min, or at the Tampa airport in 25-30. We have all the benefits of living near big cities, without dealing with the traffic! Maybe next winter you can come for a visit - I'll let you know when the guest room is available. We may even make it to a quilt show!
