OT: Where exactly is spring???

I wrote this part last night:

Since the middle of October when we had a dump of snow that built up to about 3 feet deep, we have not had a reprieve. We have so much snow on the ground it will be here till June if it starts to melt tomorrow. And that isn't going to happen. In the last 2 days we have had another 6 inches come down.

The snow banks in the driveway are taller than my Jeep. The snow banks along the road hide our Ford Ranger. The snowbanks in the neighbours yard stand taller than his cargo van.......... get the picture?

This is just insane and yes we are having cabin fever and seasonal disorders in our town.

And then........... this morning:

...............and yes it is still snowing and yes I had to shovel yet another 3 inches off the sidewalk when I got up this morning.

6am and shovelling in the wind and snow is NOT my idea of spring!!!!!!!!!! Temperature this morning was -17C (-17 degree Celsius = 1.4 degree Fahrenheit)

Good grief! Wow. We are promised a small snowfall tomorrow and Monday - but it won't be much, and won't last now. Good luck for your real Spring coming sooner rather than later. . In message , ~KK in BC~ writes

Wouldn't it be nice if we could sort of even things out a bit? We'll be up to 90° today, and it's *much* too early to be dealing with that kind of heat -- it promises to be a long *hot* summer with skyrocketing electric bills as the AC tries to keep us cool enough to think. :( We're still in the middle of a bad drought, too, so we could use some moisture. What a strange year this has been in terms of weather!

It's here in northern Nevada. We've been breaking high temperature records. Supposed to be 85 degrees here today.

Wait a minute! That's not Spring! I take it back -- summer is here in northern Nevada.

Well, it's not all that warm down here by Seattle, but it's warmer than

*that*!! Want to come down for a visit? You could hang out with me in the SR, and help cut fleece scraps into squares

I think there's a few more days until it's "officially" spring. I think we're ALL ready KK - enough is enough!! My hands are just itchin' to get out and play in the garden. Hang in there...... spring is coming, I promise!

Not to rub it in, but our high today should be 26C/80F. I've had to start running the sprinklers, and have been mowing the grass for a month. :-P

Howdy!

Spring has been here in n.Tx. for about a month; want me to send some up your way? Mild temps, open windows, a good heavy rain this week, dry enough to mow the yard, blooming stuff everywhere-- yeah, looks like spring!

Check back again in a month or so: it will be too hot too early too long and I will be hating it.

Meanwhile, it's still cool enough this week to use a quilt.

Ragmop/Sandy -- we have horrible summers but we don't (often) shovel snow

Around here we have already passed spring and summer is here. Was 99°F. both yesterday and today. Earliest it has gotten that warm. (At least since records have been kept since sometime in the 1890's.) It is supposed to cool back down to the upper 80's for a few days though.

It is going to be a loooooonnnnnnnnggggggggggggg and very hot summer. sigh.

Then I guess I've been in both places since I've traveled the full length of the highway. But Dawson City is the place that I was remembering. It was a fun place!

Why don't they call it the Al-Can Highway anymore? Can you believe, I used a Trip-Tik from AAA for my drive to Alaska! I remember a ghost town along the way too. I took lots of pictures of old rusted out cars. I don't know why.

If I am thinking of the same ghost town, I believe it was a settlement at one time that was handed over to the first nations here and then it was just simply abandon.

I'm not sure when the "official" change to the Alaska Highway was but its been called this for many many years now. I think it was coined the Alcan by the locals and it just kinda stuck over and above the official name for many years.

~KK in BC~ who needs to brush up on her local history!
