OT - Yahoo privacy

This was posted on a Yahoo group I read. I have followed the directions and it's real.

Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo Group users around the net and see what you're doing and where you are going similar to cookies. Yahoo is recording every website and every group you visit. Take a look at their updated privacy statement:

About half-way down the page, in the section on cookies, you will see a link that says web beacons. Click on the phrase web beacons. That will bring you to a paragraph entitled "Outside the Yahoo Network." In this section you'll see a little "click here to opt out" link that will let you "opt-out" of their new method of snooping. Once you have clicked that link, you are exempted. Notice the "Success" message on the top of the next page. Be careful because on that page there is a "Cancel Opt-out" button that, if clicked, will *undo** the opt-out.

Feel free to forward this to other groups.

Thanks for the warning sneaky how they positioned the "CANCEL" button though

A few days ago, Yahoo was hijacking my browser every time I opened up Internet Explorer (my usual home page is Google). The browser would either open to Yahoo or go there a few seconds later. One one occasion I had navigated from Google to one of my "favorites." I was entering some information on my chosen website, when I looked up and discovered that my page had switched to Yahoo.

I ran every spyware program I have and haven't had any problems since. But I am not happy with Yahoo.

Would anyone have any recommendations?

I have the Hargreaves book on machine quilting already.

TIA!

Georgia Bonesteel has books on "lap quilting". Same as quilt as you go. I asked this question last week so if you do a search on it, you may get the same answers I got! Someone else will have to tell you how to do that!

Have been getting the same thing for a couple of days but spyware seems to have settled it - for now! It is bound to come back though.

I have recently backed up my harddrive in prep for upgrading my operating system so I am being a bit careless at the moment - figure I don't have mush to lose as I have removed all sensitive info from the drive and it will get scrubbed shortly. But if this continues I will be taking steps to block Yahoo when the "new" drive starts up! I lived without msgr and a second email account for years - and will do again rather than put up with this intrusive behaviour.

BTW - has anyone else been getting problems with webshots today? I has "spat the dummy" all morning here.

How often do y'all dump your cookie file.

Once a week I run a cookie dump, and don't forget to dump your temporary files too. Also run virus scan, adaware, and spybot once a week, plus ms antispy on a daily basis.
